Attain’s core values are the foundation from which the success of our clients flows.” Dr. Simon Szykman is Attain's chief technology officer. He is responsible for developing the firm’s technology strategy and intellectual property, overseeing delivery of innovative and cost effective solutions to clients, providing thought leadership in the industry, and managing the firm’s portfolio of strategic alliance partners. His contributions also include helping to establish and cultivate new accounts to drive growth, launching a corporate Competency Center of Excellence, and developing go-to-market technology strategies that strengthen the firm’s competitiveness and position Attain for success. Prior to joining Attain, Dr. Szykman served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the U.S. Department of Commerce for over four years, after serving as CIO of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for more than three years. Before his CIO roles, Dr. Szykman worked in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, where he was a Senior Policy Analyst and later, the Director of the National Coordination Office for Networking and Information Technology Research and Development. He also served as the first Director of Cyber Security R&D at the Department of Homeland Security. Earlier in his career, he spent several years as a member of the technical research staff at NIST. Dr. Szykman holds Ph.D. and Master of Science degrees from Carnegie Mellon University, a Master of Engineering Management degree from the George Washington University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Rochester. With a reputation of excellence for leadership in government information technology, he has been recognized with awards including the AFFIRM Executive Leadership award in Information Resources Management, the AFCEA Bethesda Government-wide Initiatives Excellence Award for Efficiency and Value Creation, the GTRA Excellence in Efficiency Award, the Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leader Award, and the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal Award. In 2009, Greg Baroni and John O’Neill co-founded Attain, and through the purchase of a platform of business, catapulted their operation from ground zero to a company with more than 100 contracts and 150 employees.
