Detective Walter Wright began his investigative career in the 1950’s as a security guy. If you needed protection, Walter Wright was the man to see. As his security firm solidified with a steady stream of retained customers, Wright decided to broaden the scope of work at his agency into private investigation. With that decision he saw his agency flourish to a team of 10 security officers and 12 public investigators. As Florida regulation changed regarding the security profession in the ‘70s and ‘80s, Wright said he decided to focus solely on private investigation. “This enabled me to become a process server,” Wright said. “At the time I’d been in this business for more than a decade and legal professionals trusted my work.” Wright was the first African American person the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office appointed into the role of process server. He said he enjoys the duality of his position as a Jacksonville African American Investigator because he has gained a stronghold in communities that intimidate others.
