If you had, I would have explained we do not charge for estimates, only for any work we actually perform / provide. First we do not charge for estimates, those are free. After speaking with clients (or emailing) we schedule a time to meet on site. Then typically go thru the existing irrigation system, make note of any repairs, issues, or concerns. And then provide pricing for these repairs. If it is for a new sprinkler system, brick walkway, patio, new landscape plantings, stone wall, or even a lawn installation, these are for free. This also reminds me of a couple of other items for customers to consider. Always make sure your hiring a licensed and fully insured company. All too many fly by night companies without the proper workers comp and / or liability insurance's to cover working at a client's property. Always get proof of insurance directly from an insurance carrier, and never accept a photo copy version. Check references, there are multiple locations online to find out everything about a company and their background. Yelp, Better Business Bureau, Google, and Merchant Circle. There are plenty of places on-line to look for a company to provide a service you need completed. These should inform and educate a consumer to really just how good or bad a particular company is and the customer experience. Just make sure you do the homework and look at everything involving a company. As in this instance, this bad referral is a result of an error or misinformation rather than when a service we actually provided to a client.
