Communicator. Client advocate. Business person’s engineer. These aren’t typical descriptions for engineers, but they are all great ways to describe us. In our over thirteen years in business, and on the thousands of projects we’ve completed, we’ve gained lots of great experience.  And we’ve found that no matter the size or type of project, our clients look to us to help them make good business decisions about their systems and spaces. We help them do just that by taking complex engineering information and making it easy to understand – so that they can make smart decisions. Our vision for WB when we founded the company was a firm dedicated to Improving the Way Things are Done. That is exactly who we are. They spent a lot of time traveling together. As road trips often do, their travels inspired an idea: that they would make great business partners. And so, WB Engineers+Consultants opened its doors in October 1999. WB has since grown to a mid-sized firm with three offices and diverse services. What started out as an idea on a road-trip has turned into a great team of people working together in a way that is anything but common. Our Mission Our mission is to be engineering experts who are great communicators. We strive to help each of our clients succeed by providing engineering consulting aligned with their business vision. We challenge ourselves to always improve the way things are done. “You walk in the door and the energy blows you over,” said Kevin Kavanaugh, president of the New York-based fitness company, which was founded in 1992. “We want you to say that you ‘get to come,’ not ‘have to come.’ ” To create that see-and-be-seen setting, Kavanaugh enlisted the New York design company Studio Sofield (a company so exclusive its website is password protected) to create a space unique to Boston. Studio Sofield, which has designed for Tom Ford and Gucci, used reclaimed wood in the lobby and locker rooms with accents influenced by the East India Company and Boston’s mercantile past. “We wanted to capture some of Boston’s traditional maritime traits so we are going with hints of Asian influence and banking,” Kavanaugh said. But don’t let the Chesterfield fool you. David Barton is no stuffy corporate gym, and Kavanaugh, who grew up on the North Shore in Wenham, said the Boston location, housed in the newly renovated Park Plaza hotel, is an ideal showcase for the company’s express-yourself DNA. Staff don’t wear uniforms. Instead, they are free to wear jeans and T-shirts as often as the latest workout gear. But the company uses the tagline Look Better Naked to remind its sweaty fan base about what really matters. “These classes will kick your butt,” Kavanaugh said. Nine of the engineer-athletes from our Boston office ventured out Thompson Island today to participate in a trail run. This event supports education programs that improve students’ academic success and helps to build self-confidence, leadership and teamwork skills. Our team included Mike Quigley, Jose Lozano, Alex Quinn, Susan Brash, Kevin Hatcher, Al Florez, Dan Duval, Tom Broderick and Joe Swankowski. Guy Cleveland was elected Chairman of the Board of Boys Town New York. Guy has been active in the organization since 2008 and has enhanced the organization’s public standing. He has led its Golf Tournament Committee since 2008. Boys Town New York provides life-changing care that produce positive outcomes for at-risk youth. Winning a new project once is fun – and in this case, we won the project twice! In 2006 we won a project to provide IT design for the Hotel Richmond in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Because of a rough economy, the project was put on hold. It took a few years, but we were just rewarded the project and plan to start work later this month.
