Walton County Fair Association
Who we are
The Walton County Fair is a non-profit organization run by volunteers. We currently have seven board members elected by the membership, and a Fair Manager.
The Walton County Fair, Inc. was chartered in 1924 as an Agricutlure Fair that has always been committed to promoting agriculture in the community. The Fair provides an opportunity for youth and adults alike to showcase their talents for artwork, handicrafts, growing crops, rearing livestock, etc. This is an excellent forum to bring the community together for great food, fun, and entertainment.

The Walton County Fair was chartered in 1924. The initial site was at Harbeson Field in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Originally, the fair was held on Armistice Day but cold weather prompted the move to a more favorable time of the year. The fair is now held in October.
There have been only six directors of the Walton County Fair. W. I. Stinson was the first to serve. After 22 years, John Creel accepted the position and served for the next 40 years. Jay McDaniel was next in line for 1999. The next two years saw Gerald Wilkerson and Shirley Carroll as managers. In 2002, Randall Infinger began his service as Fair Manager and remains in place today.
The first building on the new site and present location was built in 1956. Oscar Harrison was instrumental in the construction, and a grant from the County Commissioners funded the project. An additional building for livestock was added in 2002.
There are 51 county fairs in the state of Florida and they run from Santa Rosa County in the western end of the panhandle to Hernando County in the southern part of the state. Fairs are operating from spring until fall every year. The Walton County Fair was the last fair in the state of Florida to charge admission.
In recent years many new events have been added. Everyone looks forward to the baking contest with excitement because the baked goods are judged and then auctioned off on opening night. Free children's activities were introduced in 2004. The Treasures in a Haystack, 4-Legged Critter Scramble, and Greased Pig Contest provide great fun for the children.
