Allen, a 45-year-old DeLeon Springs, Florida resident, is no stranger to Volusia Speedway Park, having spent many nights at the track with his father, who was a security guard at the track in the 1970s. Over the last three season, Allen had sponsored the track with his successful business, Allen Plumbing. “For me, the Speedway is my joy – to bring all these drivers and fans together,” said John Allen. “A lot of people come out of the wood-work to help out, which is huge. We try to help out the local community and just bring everyone together. I get joy out of giving people somewhere to go on a Saturday night.” From February 14th thru the 25th racing action will pack each evening with Modifieds, Sprint Cars, Late Models, and Big Block Modifieds for the annual season kick off in Florida with drivers from all over the country making the trip south trying to win one of the famous Gator Trophies. We here at VSP Racing, LLC would like to make sure all of our race fans know we do not run this particular event and this will not be the primary website to look for start times, ticket pricing, camping and other questions. The main event of the night in the Advanced Medical Labs Late Models saw Ivedent Lloyd Jr. lead the field to green driving the Big Frog Motorsports #58 XR1 Rocket. Lloyd would go on and lead the first several laps, but the man on the move was Mark Whitener in the BOZARD Ford #6w Longhorn machine. Whitener had to start shotgun on the field after his #5 machine experienced mechanical issues which forced him to a Blake Spencer back up machine. Whitener would waste no time getting to the front as he would use the high line to go from the tail of the field to fourth in just three laps. Whitener would then waste no time getting to the point and never looking back just past the races half way point and go onto win the coveted $2,000 top prize. Heat Race winner Bo Allen would cross the line second followed by Donnie Chappell, Russell Brown, and Blake Spencer rounding out the top five.
