What is The Veterans Assistance Coalition Our Mission is to assist and support Veteerans of all wars, providing charity, education, relief and comradery while improving quality of life and well being. Company Overview We are a 501(c) 3 nonprofit corporation. We were formed in 2012 with 4 co-founders and are all strictly volunteers. We do not have any paid employees and all money raised goes to the betterment of homeless Veterans and their families. We use our own vehicles and gas to pick up gently used donated furniture and store it till we have a homeless Veteran family that is moving into housing and then we furnish their new homes with everything they need, dishes, pots and pans , etc. We exist solely on donations from businesses and the public. The local VA with their “HUD Vash” program and the Salvation Army, are assisting the Veterans with housing. The VAC has partnered with them to provide the housing needs to make an empty apartment into a home. Since the VAC’s conception in September, 2012, 193+ Veterans have been provided assistance totaling nearly $420,000.00 worth of household items and “gently used furniture”. The assistance included beds, dressers, sheets, quilts, pillows, sofas, chairs, coffee tables, end tables, kitchen tables & chairs, pots & pans, silverware, cups, glasses, appliances (large and small), and whatever other household items were needed. We are able to achieve this goal primarily from donations and volunteers from each organization. At present, the volunteers, in the group, pay for their own mode of transportation, gas and vehicle upkeep, used to pick up the “gently used” furnishings throughout the Volusia & Flagler County areas and many man hours of physical labor. With that, we are in need of financial support to remove these burdens from our volunteers. The average age of our volunteers, is 70 years old, and are also Veterans. We have found that here is a much bigger need then we had ever anticipated. With the influx of more Veterans in the system as homeless, we are always in need of more volunteers, and warehouse space in which to house the items collected.
