About Versailles De Toro Optical In 1930, Lorenzo De Toro, an immigrant from the Spanish city of Toro, founded Versailles De Toro Optical in Havana, Cuba. From its inception, the business was family-owned and operated. Indeed, three of Lorenzo De Toro's children graduated from the University of Havana's School of Optometry and became part of the Versailles De Toro Optical family. It was a family business, catering to families. After a few years of establishing itself as successful provider of vision services, Lorenzo opened a second store, in 1956, also in Havana. Despite the growth, and expansion to include wholesale distribution, Lorenzo ensured that the company never strayed from its mission of providing personal service and quality care to its customer base. The business thrived in the 1940's and 1950's, firmly solidifying its reputation for excellent customer care. Along came the Castro Revolution in the 1960's, which resulted in the government's confiscation of the Versailles De Toro Opticals in Cuba. Distraught to see everything the family had worked for taken away, Lorenzo De Toro persisted, and the spirit and vision lived on when, in 1967, after relocating to Miami, Florida, one of Lorenzo's sons, Lorenzo De Toro, Jr., oversaw the rebirth of Versailles De Toro Optical, both retail and wholesale. First starting as a small store front in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood, the Versailles De Toro family of Opticals has since grown to include three locations in the South Florida area--Miami, Coral Gables, and Hialeah.
