The Venice Cat Coalition (VCC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization located in Venice, Florida. Founded in 2006 by Theresa Foley, a dedicated advocate for feral cats with expertise in Trap, Neuter, Return programs developed during her work in the Florida Keys, VCC was established to address the need for grassroots cat rescue efforts in southern Sarasota County. VCC has built strong partnerships with various businesses and vendors, instituting non-profit shelter discount programs with companies such as Pfizer, Bayer, IDEXX, among others. These collaborations extend to local pet stores and veterinary offices for adoption processes, with Petsmart Charities being a core partner in VCC's rescue initiatives. Their collaboration with Buddy's Feral Cat Program is particularly noteworthy; the program performs spaying or neutering services on over 400 cats annually and has contributed to more than 13,000 sterilizations since its inception. Operating under VCC's non-profit status, this partnership also facilitates care for injured feral cats and arranges no-cost spay/neuter procedures for local cat caretakers. VCC's impactful work in animal welfare is supported by multiple grants from organizations such as the national ASPCA, PetSmart Charities, the Petco Foundation, Hewlett Packard, and guidance through Best Friends No More Homeless Pets network toward its pediatric program developments. With a mission to serve local cats and aim for the reduction of euthanasia in regional shelters, VCC envisions transforming Sarasota and Charlotte counties into 'No Kill' communities for both cats and dogs.
