The club has many activities for members. Our social events encompass a wide variety of venues and frequently are planned to include spouses or partners. Our Outreach program welcomes residents who enjoy improving the welfare of others. A number of smaller organized groups provide a way for members to meet others in University Park with similar interests. See "Special Interests" tab.
We have supported a variety of organizations through the years, most recently The Just for Girls Academy located in Bradenton. Past years have included SPARCC (Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center), Mothers Helping Mothers, PACE (Practical Academic Cultural Education), Manatee Children’s Services, Food Bank of Manatee, Children’s Guardian Fund, Habitat for Humanity, and many others. More than $10,000 per year has been contributed to community charities. The Diamond and Crystal Charity Ball has been our main fund-raising social event of the year.
Mission Statement
• Provide members with opportunities for friendships and shared interests through group activities and social events.
• Welcome new residents and provide helpful information about the Club and their community.
• Provide opportunities to improve the welfare of others through community service activities.
The season is in full swing as we head into April. Our next luncheon and general meeting will be held at Palm Aire Country Club on April 11th, featuring our very own Sondra Ettlinger who will be speaking on ‘The Secrets of Being a Traveler Rather Than a Tourist.’ This luncheon is especially important because we will be voting on our new officer slate during the business meeting. You’ll be getting an email about a week before the meeting so you’ll know who our candidates are and to offer you a chance to vote electronically if you are unable to attend the meeting. You can download a reservation form to register for the event.
The Special interest groups continue their activities. I hope you had a chance to learn more about them from during our social hour at the Fashion Show. You may also be interested to learn the two new special interest groups are in the works. They are Walk & Talk and O.W.L. (Out With the Ladies). If you have an interest in either of these, please contact Alba Foreman. Right now both groups still need one or more volunteers to help coordinate some activities. The Gadabouts group will also be looking for new leaders for the upcoming year.
