We believe that God has most clearly revealed Himself in the person and work of Jesus Christ, His life, death, resurrection, and ascension. It is through Jesus that we learn who God is, who we are as individuals, and who we are as a church community. The gospel is the foundation of everything: Our vision (who we aspire to be), values (what we believe), our mission (what we do) and our affections (what we love).
GOSPEL MISSION
Between the time of His first coming and His coming again, Jesus has commissioned His Church to take His good news message to the world: “Go and make disciples” (Matthew 28:19). The gospel is not just about my individual happiness or God’s plan for my life; it is about God’s plan for the world. In addition to our calling to testify and proclaim Christ’s message of good news, God also calls us into various vocational spheres, through which every Christian can love God and serve our neighbors by bringing about the flourishing of families, cities, and societies through our work, all to the glory of God.
MISSION
We are an outpost of Christ’s kingdom that gathers in worship to hear God’s word, is sent out on mission to declare the good news of Jesus, and that seeks to demonstrate love through acts of mercy and justice.
As a people who have been called by God and gathered in the name of Jesus, the Church is described in various ways: a holy temple being built up, or a body with many parts. The chief metaphor for Jesus and His Church is that of the household of faith—a family. In view of this, we desire to be a people who swim against the current of pervasive individualism. We affirm that all have been made in the image of God, and, though sinful, God is redeeming people from every tribe, tongue, and nation, to be in His family as a new creation. We are a diverse people who should not be divided along the lines of economic advantage or disadvantage, ethnic difference, gender distinction, or any other cultural barrier that distinguishes us. We are a people who have been united by one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father, and we share in one common communion meal. (Romans 12:4, 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, Galatians 3:28, Galatians 6:10, 1 Peter 2:9-10)
As a people who are aware of God’s lavish love toward us through His provision, providential care, and sacrificial death on the cross, we aim to be a people who serve the least, last, and lost. God’s heart is for the orphan, widow, poor, and foreigner among us. We desire to have the same heart as we serve all those who find themselves defenseless or in need. (Galatians 5:13–14)
