TRIFACTOR ENGINEERING, LLC, LAKELAND

The nature of our business is very complicated and technical.  It requires knowledge of several disciplines, including information technology, mechanical, industrial, and electrical engineering, as well as a thorough understanding of the principles of distribution and business administration.  At TriFactor, continuing education is not optional. It is a requirement in order to advance in our career path program.  This requirement is supported by TriFactor offering scholarship funds to employees for educational programs that will help further the cause of TriFactor and its client partners.  These funds are available for such things as pursuing an MBA or taking courses furthering an employee’s knowledge directly associated with our industry.  As an example, engineers and salesman have been sent to the “Supply Chain & Logistics Institute” at the Georgia Institute of Technology for various distribution and logistics courses. Last but not least, Safety Training is critical to our mission and we participate in annual OSHA and first-aid courses. Founded as AHS, Inc. in January of 1972, John Thompson started the Lakeland, Florida-based material handling company primarily focusing on conveyor, crane and hoists systems.    In 1983, the company was sold to OKI Systems, a Cincinnati, Ohio-based lift truck company.  The company operated as a division of OKI Systems called Advanced Handling Systems. In 1984, John Phelan, a 9 year industry veteran for OKI Systems, Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio, moved his family to Lakeland to manage the Florida operations of the company. OKI Systems and Portman Equipment Company merged their “systems” divisions in July of 1985.  This merge formed a new company based in Cincinnati and with an office located in Lakeland, Florida. In 1993, Mr. Phelan purchased the assets of the Florida operations and formed a Florida corporation called Advanced Handling Systems, Inc.  Phelan divided the company into two functional organizations; one focused on engineered material handling system design and the other on crane and hoist sales.  Later that year, Phelan sold the crane and hoist business to focus solely on engineered systems. In 2007, Advanced Handling Systems, Inc., developed a new business model and a clear focus for the future.  The Company decided to change its name to TriFactor to better distinguish itself from other similarly named companies in the material handling solutions industry. On January 1, 2008, the Company officially began operating under the TriFactor name. Today TriFactor is considered one of the leading automated material handling and software solutions providers in the nation.  Unlike others in our industry, we incorporate cutting edge technology and controls to create customer specific engineered solutions and systems designs.  We are sought out by companies nationwide to provide solutions that reduce inventory and delivery time, lower costs of manufacturing, distribution and transportation, and improve their customer service.  As the premier provider in Florida, we are positioned for continued growth and success for many years to come. As everyone in business knows, changing a company name has serious implications.  It can often leave people wondering why. Since we have been considering a name change for a several years, let me share our thinking with you.   We are a far different organization than we were even a decade ago, primarily because of the immense changes taking place in distribution technology. We are far more sophisticated in what we do because our customers’ challenges are far more demanding.
