TRIAY, INC.
ARCADIA, FLORIDA

The firm traces its origins to the practice established in Gibraltar in 1905 by the late Arthur C. Carrara CMG, KC a friend and colleague of Sergio Pelayo Triay QC (the grandfather and great grandfather of the Triay partners and family). Sergio Triay joined Arthur Carrara in practice in 1926. Arthur Carrara died in 1949 which was the same year when JJ Triay joined his father in practice. After Arthur Carrara’s death, the practice was then run by S P Triay KC and his son and became known as Triay & Triay. JJ’s brother J E Triay QC joined the firm in 1952 when Triay & Triay was already in full swing under his father’s leadership. JE Triay QC became the senior partner of the firm in 1972. In 1991, Triay & Triay merged with Vasquez Benady, a firm which incorporated the practice of Samuel Benady CBE, QC and Sir Alfred J Vasquez. CBE., QC, MA (Cantab). Both JE Triay QC and Sir Alfred Vasquez QC sadly passed away in 2012. Today the firm remains true to its family origins – all of JE Triay QC’s sons are partners in the firm as are Sir Alfred’s son Robert Vasquez QC and his nephew Freddie Vasquez QC with JE Triay QC’s eldest son Melo now the firm’s senior partner. Our clients range from international businesses to private companies, governments, charities and private individuals. Due to our commitment to maintaining the highest standards and ethics in our profession; building strong relationships with our clients and our ability to deliver practical and proportionate legal solutions, we remain at the forefront of the profession in Gibraltar with a tried and trusted reputation for legal excellence amongst our clients and peers. Triay & Triay has succeeded for over 100 years by applying basic principles to its relationships with clients and staff alike. The foundations of that success are: We are committed to giving the highest level of professional advice each and every time. The firm is confident that it can provide this expert advice on all matters. The practice thrives on pushing the envelope on innovative thinking in order to provide the highest and most effective solutions to our clients needs. Staff are encouraged to offer alternative and novel ways of carrying out their duties so that we may all excel. Professional ethics are the firm’s bedrock. We commit to advising what is best, not necessarily what is wanted to be heard. Solutions that work without conflicts of interest, result in successful long-standing relationships. Gibraltar is self-governing with parliamentary elections held every 4 years. The elected parliament assumes responsibility for all aspects of running the territory including taxation, health, education and policing. Gibraltar is self financing and the UK’s remit is limited to defence and foreign policy. However, as a British Dependant Overseas Territory, Gibraltar maintains very strong links with the United Kingdom and whilst most of the population is bilingual, the business language is English, the currency is sterling and schools operate to UK standards and curriculum. The current Government was elected into power in December 2011, with a firm manifesto commitment to drive forward the financial services sector. In particular the government pledged to work with the professionals in the finance industry to make Gibraltar one of Europe’s premier Finance centres.
