TIFFIN MOTOR HOMES, INC., RED BAY

A family business built around yours. Tiffin Motorhomes is proud to be one of the few family-owned manufacturers in the industry, and it makes a significant difference in how our company operates versus our competitors. For starters, with the Tiffin name on every coach, building a superior motorhome isn’t just our occupation. It’s a matter of personal pride, a pursuit we have committed our lives to perfecting. Since we don’t have shareholders looking over our shoulder, the only people we focus on making happy are folks like you. All the decisions we make, from using better parts to offering more thoughtful floor plans than anyone else, are based on what will result in a better motorhome, not a better dividend check. In fact, some decisions, like limiting production to 12 coaches a day to ensure quality craftsmanship, probably wouldn’t sit too well with a corporate board of directors. Also, when we say family-owned, that means family-operated, too. Tim Tiffin has been our general manager for more than a decade, guiding the overall direction of our company. Van Tiffin oversees innovations as head of research & development, and Lex Tiffin’s work with supplier relations helps us maintain our high standards. Of course, everyone knows our founder Bob, who is in the RV Industry Association’s Hall of Fame and is still the first one at the plant every morning at 5:00 a.m. As a family running a motorhome company, we understand families who own motorhomes. We know it’s not just about where a coach will take you, but the experience you take from the journey. That’s why every Tiffin motorhome is made to move you. A Family Business Built Around Yours Since day one, Tiffin has been a family business. Our company is filled with employees who have made working at Tiffin Motorhomes a family tradition. It's a kind of loyalty that just isn't seen very often these days. But then again, neither is this kind of quality and service. Here are a few members of the Tiffin family who have built their lives around bringing you a quality product. “Our name is on the product, and that’s enough for us to fix whatever is wrong. That’s why we always say, "Wherever you go, we go!” Bob founded Tiffin Motorhomes in 1972, and since then the company has manufactured and sold over 65,000 motorhomes. With the simple mission of "building lifetime relationships by doing our best to exceed the sales, service and overall ownership expectations of Tiffin Motorhomes' owners and dealers," Tiffin has earned its reputation for having the best products and customer service in the industry. Bob is a 30-year RVIA member, and for his dedication and commitment he was inducted into the Heritage Foundation Hall of Fame in 1999. "In 1997, Daddy led the celebration of Tiffin Motorhomes' 25th Anniversary as a privately-owned Class A motorhome manufacturer. That is no small achievement. It is now my job to see that we excel in the next century and celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2022. My brothers and I feel that we are up to the task and welcome the challenge." The oldest of Bob’s three children, Tim graduated from the University of Alabama and immediately joined the company. From his first job in purchasing, he has progressed in his managerial roles to his present position of general manager. Tim's role, working with the management team, is to solve problems and remove snags in production. The daily production quota is his yardstick. He also is responsible for advertising and branding. "Competition currently is the keenest in the history of the industry. Customers are the reason we are in business. If we continue to meet their needs, they will keep us in business. It is my job to pay special attention to what customers are telling the motorhome marketplace." Van majored in public relations at the University of Alabama, playing with the Crimson Tide football team as a place kicker. His Tiffin career began in customer service, where he learned, as his father and grandfather did before him, how to treat customers and focus on solving problems. Van now serves the company by managing product development, including research, design, prototype development, promotion and advertising — all key elements in motorhome sales. "We do quality right from the start. Quality cannot be inspected into a product; it must be built into each step of the assembly process. A customer deserves quality. After all, a motorhome is a person's home away from home. They want the same quality in their motorized home as they demand in their stationary home." Lex Tiffin, Bob’s youngest son, studied art at the University of Alabama before joining the company in 1998. His role is making quality the #1 goal in the manufacturing process. In this pursuit, Lex implemented in-line inspection and correction, which means quality exceptions are fixed immediately after they occur. By the time the product gets to the end of the assembly line, it is typically ready to go. A Family Business Built Around Yours A dedication to doing things right. In 1941, in a small north Alabama town, Bob Tiffin’s father Alex started Tiffin Supply Company, a store that sold just about everything needed to build and furnish a house. Alex’s customer service policy was “If you don't treat people fairly, you can't look them in the eye.” Bob took his father’s wisdom to heart. The family business grows In 1965, the Tiffins bought a state-of-the-art cotton gin. To run it, Alex turned to 23-year-old Bob, who took to the machinery and management like it was second nature. As the cotton gin became a steady contributor to the family enterprise, a new business came to the area. Bob was fascinated with their products – recreational vehicles. When the RV company called it quits, the Tiffin family bought that business, too. Tiffin Motorhomes was born. In 1972, Bob set a modest production goal of two motorhomes a day. Thirty-three years later, the 50,000th coach rolled off the Tiffin production line. By that time, there were more Tiffins coming down the line too. Bob’s sons Tim, Van, and Lex had all joined the family business, each proud to carry on the Tiffin legacy. And, of course, all the wonderful employees who were as cherished as family, understanding that at Tiffin, we’re all in this together. With strong relationships binding together customers, employees, communities, managers, and dealers, the future for Tiffin Motorhomes is brighter than ever.
