The Southern Letterpress opened on Labor Day 2011 in Columbus, Mississippi, in the front office of one of the last locally-printed newspapers in the country, published at this very location, and we chose to align ourselves with the storied history of printing in the south by naming our press The Southern Letterpress. runs The Southern Letterpress in New Orleans. Born and raised in Rochester, NY, she moved to the South in 2006 to immerse herself in letterpress printing (and escape winter). She studied printing while earning a MFA in Book Arts at the University of Alabama, and then as a resident artist of the town of Gordo, Alabama, under the mentorship of Glenn House, Sr. and Kathy Fetters. S runs The Southern Letterpress in Florida. She is currently the Letterpress and Book Arts Coordinator at Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL. Bridget studied bookbinding, letterpress printing, printmaking, and artists’ books at the Cooper Union, Center for Book Arts, Penland School of Crafts, Asheville BookWorks, and the California Rare Book School. She received her MFA in the Book Arts, as well as her MLIS, from the University of Alabama. She is a frequent instructor at Ox-Bow, Penland, The Press at Colorado College, and Ringling College of Art and Design. Bridget and Jessica met while studying at The University of Alabama.
