Welcome to The Quilting Lore
Every quilt has a story it wants to share. Sometimes it comes alive the second I lay my eyes on it but more often than not it slowly emerges as I begin to quilt it. Giving me only small glimpses of what quilting designs it wants me to create to help tell its story little by little. Sounds odd? I thought so myself in the beginning. But the more I just let go of knowing all that I was going to quilt before I started the more the designs came to me as I was quilting. Thus born the slogan "Stories for Design".
My background is in interior design and I pull from that knowledge as I view a quilt. Is it traditional or whimsical? Does it scream modern or primitive? How can I enhance the piecing or applique? These are some of the things I consider before I even begin quilting. I feel my job as a longarm quilter is to carry forward the voice and heart of the piecer, bringing to life the total design each quilt has the potential to display for those to enjoy for many years to come. Part of my hope with this blog is to capture that process and share it in the hopes of helping others create those designs for themselves or for their customers. It will not matter if you can free motion, use pantographs or have a fully computer operated machine as a story can to told in many ways.
