My name is Robert L. Bacon, and after a 30-year career in sales and marketing, predominantly in the healthcare industry, I founded The Perfect Write® in 2009 as a means to provide editorial assistance for writers at all levels. I have written six novels, three mysteries and three thrillers, and I facilitated developmental, intermediate, and advanced writing workshops sponsored by The Palm Beach County Library System. I offer the syllabuses and notes from each of these structured formats, which consist of nine to twelve two-hour lectures depending on the series, at no charge to anyone who would like to conduct writing workshops in a community setting. The Perfect Write® Manuscript Critique The Perfect Write® Manuscript Critique Service provides comprehensive manuscript evaluation from the perspective of a work’s potential for publication by a major royalty publisher or a quality independent press. The critique will analyze story premise, plot strength, the dimension of the characters, depth of the characterizations, quality of the dialogue, overall readability, pacing, pitch, tone, and voice, scene transitioning, story continuity, grammar from a “global” perspective, and anything else that is felt might improve the narrative. The author will receive suggestions that can range from 1) copyediting; 2) the need to have the work line-edited, which includes copyediting; or, 3) the opinion that the piece will be best served by developmental (also called substantive) editing, which will include both line-editing and copyediting. The Perfect Write The Perfect Write® fee for a manuscript critique is $2 per page of double-spaced material and based on a metric of 280 words per page. Lead time is approximately 30-45 days from the acceptance of material, and The Perfect Write® reserves the right to refuse any manuscript for any reason. Fees are U.S. dollars for all services provided by The Perfect Write®. Please note that the minimum fee for a comprehensive critique is $600, which applies to any draft between 60,000 and 84,000 words. Material containing more than 84,000 words will be charged at the standard $2 per 280-words-per-page rate for the entire word count. The Perfect Write® Manuscript Copyediting Service The Perfect Write The Perfect Write® will read the first 50 pages of the manuscript. Our standard reading fee of $2 per 280-word page will apply. In addition to a critique, we will return up to the first 5000 words of the narrative with revisions to enable an evaluation of our copy/line-editing proficiency. If it is felt that our firm the right editor for the project, The Perfect Write® will also provide a quote at a level rate of $10 to $12 per 280-word page for the line-edit of the entire manuscript. Copyediting is included in this fee, and the lead time for line-editing is predicated on what we have in our manuscript queue, but will generally range from 45 to 60 days. The Perfect Write® Developmental (Substantive) Editing In addition to critiques and copy/line-editing, The Perfect Write® offers compre-hensive developmental editing (sometimes referred to as substantive editing) that takes a manuscript from its inception to the finished product, commonly requiring three months or more to bring to completion. The Perfect Write® Developmental Editing Service is particularly beneficial for the author who is not seeking a ghost writer but feels that a work is stalled and desires professional direction and expertise each step along the way. The Perfect Write® Developmental Editing Process and Fee Structure The Perfect Write® will require reading the full manuscript. Our standard reading fee of $2 per 280-word page will apply. After this read is completed, a detailed critique will be provided, along with the fee for developmental editing at a level rate of from $15 to $25 per 280-word page. The Perfect Write® is now providing authors with a Free Opening Chapter Critique and Line Edit. Paste the first chapter of your manuscript (up to 5,000 words) to (no attachments).
