The Wood Floor Store - Home of "The Floor Doctor" is a member of the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA). Tom Goering is one of only 7 people in Florida who is certified by the NWFA in both installation, sanding and finishing. The NWFA is dedicated to training and educating wood flooring professionals in the installation, sanding, finishing and sales of wood products. NWFA members are familiar with the latest products, services and trends in the industry. NWFA members possess the knowledge, skills, and professionalism to help you make an informed decision and to deliver a high quality job that will last for the lifetime of your home. Tom, born and raised in Red Wing, Minnesota, graduated from Michigan State. He began his career in hardwoods in Boston. In 1989, he opened the doors of The Floor Doctor. Being the creative type, Tom loves to get his hands on intricate customized hardwood flooring projects - the more challenging, the better. He loves sports and playing golf. Go Spartans! At six weeks old, Kathy moved to Sarasota. She graduated from the University of Florida. For 19 years, she brokered residential real estate and earned her Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) commercial designation. Kathy joined Tom at The Floor Doctor in 1994. She also likes sports and golfing. Go Gator's! The Business Together, Tom and Kathy have grown The Wood Floor Store - Home of The Floor Doctor into one of the most respected hardwood flooring businesses in the state of Florida. They have created one of the most beautiful hardwood showrooms in the area. I was in the process of selling my condo when I had some damage to my hardwood floors. I needed the repairs done as soon as possible so I could continue showing the unit to potential buyers. Everyone from Tom, the owner, to Jan in the front office, to Mark and Todd, the installers, understood my dilemma and was able to rearrange schedules to get the job done quickly. Mark, who did our installation, did a phenomenal job. We could not be happier with the finished product. We purchased an older home with hardwood floors that needed TLC. Our concerns about finding the right company to address our various issues (repairs,refinishing and new flooring) were relieved when Tom came out to "take a look." His knowledge and assuring manner relieved our concerns as we felt we found the right "expert" to help us. Repairs included lacing in recovered pieces to match old flooring. All existing wood floors were then sanded and stained to match new Mirage Engineered oak flooring. Everyone with whom we dealt (owners, showroom personnel and installers) were friendly, professional and very knowledgeable about wood types, characteristics and application for various floors. Our floors are beautiful. We would highly recommend Tom & Kathy and their team for your wood floor work. I had laminate flooring installed by the Wood Floor Store in the open-space area covering my living room, family room, and office. The work was completed in three days and looks gorgeous! The workers were professional, courteous, and left the area cleaner than they found it. They also applied floor protectors to all of my furniture's legs and put all the furniture back in place. Tom didn’t bash the previous work but did point out areas that were of concern and areas that would be a problem for us. He sent his crew out and in just a few days, they repaired, replaced, installed and cleaned up the mess that was left behind by the previous installer. Their work IS TOP NOTCH!
