I started Fledgling in 2005, after a long career at Harvard University where I taught at both the School of Public Health and the Business School. I was interested in global poverty reduction and the role that corporations could and were playing in reducing the burden of disease. Within this work, storytelling was pivotal. When I left in 2005, my next step was exploring how to tell richer and more visual stories. At Fledgling, I have so many opportunities to support and work with filmmakers as they tell critical stories that can change our world. I am on various community boards, most actively on the Everglades Foundation board and on the Advisory Board of the Acumen Fund. I travel frequently with my husband and have three adult children who advise and inspire me. I came to Fledgling in 2005 after many years working in the field of health care policy and management and bring not only a strong interest in public health, but also a passion for social justice and fairness. As its first staff member and now Executive Director, I have worked over years to shape Fledgling’s strategy, operations, grant-making and other strategic activities. I am proud of what Fledgling has accomplished over the last 10 years – supporting stellar projects, taking risks, and helping to define and strengthen the field. In addition to my work with Fledgling, I serve on the executive board of the Milton Foundation for Education. I live just outside of Boston with my husband and three children. WHO WE ARE We are driven by the belief that powerful visual stories can spur action around issues that affect the most vulnerable. Stories have the power to drive social change around climate change, health care, justice reform, human rights and other critical issues. We exist to help those stories take flight. Since 2005, we have supported close to 350 projects and put over $12 million into the field. And, we are not done yet.
