The CDI Group (CDI) operates as a discount specialized dental care service plan, and is licensed in the state of California pursuant to the provisions of the Knox-Keene Health Care Services Plan. In 2010, CDI started offering its specialized dental care service plans nationwide, and as of 2016, CDI is either licensed as a Discount Management Plan Organization (DMPO) or is registered to operate as a foreign entity administrating discount medical plans in 42 states. Unlike traditional insurance, our plans support making costs known “up front”. Our plans are there for you, if you need routine care, or dealing with an unplanned dental expense. In 1977, Dr. Edwynn Edgar Schroeder, D.D.S., M.S., ABO was approached by several unions that were struggling with the solvency of their in-house dental plans. Drawing on new ideas and years of experience, Dr. Schroeder was able to create successful dental plans for the unions, and, in 1978, Western Dental Plan Management (WDPM) was born. The creation of WDPM turned Dr. Schroeder’s vision for promoting oral health into reality by giving patients access to a membership program that would provide them with the highest quality, service, and value. In 2002, after several decades of success and expansion, Dr. Schroeder asked his two sons, Neil and Sam Schroeder, to get involved in the business. The Schroeder brothers were innovators and began developing new dental plans for unions. They forged relationships with the Teamsters, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and the Bakery and Confectionery Workers of Southern California, providing union members with exceptional service and dental care. In 2006, Neil and Sam realized that dental deductibles were rapidly increasing and an employer’s ability to handle the cost burden of medical and dental insurance was diminishing. Even though discount dental plans were becoming increasingly regulated, they saw a market niche for nationwide discount dental plans as an alternative. In 2007, they created the The CDI Group. The CDI Group immediately set itself apart by specializing exclusively in the design, development, and administration of proprietary discount dental plans for Dental Service Organizations (DSO’s), which serve as strategic partners. CDI administered discount dental plans are specifically geared towards helping non-insurance patients gain access to affordable and transparent dentistry while helping DSO’s and their offices serve the ever-increasing number of cash paying patients. CDI was first licensed in the state of California pursuant to the provisions of the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act, one of the most comprehensive regulatory programs in the United States. In 2010, CDI completed the rigorous process to become a nationwide Discount Medical Plan Organization (DMPO) and started offering its discount dental plans across the country. CDI now serves individuals, families, employer groups, unions, dental practices, brokers, and general agents in 42 states.
