The Angelus, Inc., which started off as The Angelus Homes back in 1979 in St. Petersburg, Florida, has grown into a non-profit powerhouse dedicated to residential care and adult day programs for people with disabilities. From its humble beginnings caring for just eight children, it has expanded remarkably to manage five group homes nestled on 17 verdant acres in Hudson, Florida. As a recognized 501(c)(3) organization, The Angelus is committed to providing safe, accessible housing specifically designed for wheelchair users and an array of programs aimed at fostering independence, sharpening communication skills, and preparing residents for daily life. At the heart of their offerings are nutritious meals lovingly prepared onsite under the guidance of a licensed dietitian, ensuring all nutritional needs are met. Their Berkley Center, spanning 5,000 square feet, is fully equipped with specialized spaces including an inviting therapy room featuring a multi-sensory environment perfect for engaging activities. Residents take part in exciting day-time programs like honing computer skills, horse care (with mini horses!), physical fitness routines, gardening projects, swimming sessions, and home economics workshops. The Angelus thrives on the generosity of donors, volunteers, and community support-which are pivotal alongside state funds to meet their budget needs. Their success in offering top-notch care is a testament to local goodwill. The Garlan Williams Pavilion, named after a key supporter who was also an esteemed board member for 20 years, stands as both a community events hub and a fundraising venue. The Angelus continues its growth by actively recruiting passionate direct care staff and encouraging more community involvement through donations or event participation. Notably, as of January 2024, they've significantly expanded their facilities to include new spaces that augment service capabilities, alongside a large generator doubling as a hurricane shelter. At the helm, you'll find Joelle P. Neri steering as Chief Executive Officer and a team of dedicated officers like Stephen C. Booth (Chairman) and Don Faunce (VP). True to its mission since day one, The Angelus remains steadfast in enhancing life's quality for individuals who rely on these crucial services.
