Temple Beth Or , a Reform Congregation in south Dayton, was founded in 1984 by a group of dedicated Jewish families who wanted their children to have a Jewish education and a place to worship as a congregation. Over a quarter century later, Temple Beth Or is a full-service congregation large enough to offer a variety of educational and community programs, yet small enough to maintain a feeling of intimacy. We look forward to welcoming you into our temple family. Rabbi Judy Chessin has been the Rabbi of Temple Beth Or since its inception in 1984. In 1984 she was asked to guide 35 South Dayton families in their endeavor to create a Reform Jewish synagogue in the Centerville area. Together they created Temple Beth Or. abbi Ari Ballaban was ordained by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in May 2015. He began serving as Temple Beth Or’s Rabbi Educator at the beginning of the 2015-2016 religious school year and was named Assistant Rabbi in 2017. He lives in Cincinnati where he is a Ph.D. candidate in Rabbinic literature at the Hebrew Union College. Donna has been with Temple Beth Or since June 2016. Her background includes several years working for the federal goverment while moving around the country with her U.S. Navy husband.  Donna handles all aspects of Temple Beth Or operations including donations, accounts, membership and facility rentals.  Sharon has been with Temple Beth Or since December 2016. Her background includes more than 20 years in journalism and public relations. More than 1,000 of the scrolls rescued from throughout Czechoslovakia and the surrounding areas are now on permanent loan to synagogues around the world.
