Dysmenorrhea, is the medical name for very painful periods. This can be caused by a low pain threshold, endometriosis, a disease that occurs when uterine tissue grows outside the uterus, or from the hormone Prostaglandin. Ibuprofen, Aleve or aspirin may be helpful. If pain from your period interferes with your ability to function you should see your doctor for an evaluation and treatment plan. Some women experience spotting or bleeding between periods. This may be expected from time to time. Heavy bleeding or many days of spotting between periods may indicate an infection, or the presence on noncancerous growths called polyps. If this occurs, you should see your healthcare provider. Problems with your period should be evaluated by you healthcare provider. You will most likely be given a pelvic exam, a pregnancy test, a pap smear, perhaps blood tests to check for infection and sometimes an ultrasound exam. Often your doctor will suggest hormone based birth control to regulate your period. These methods can control heavy bleeding, cramping, and periods that are too frequent. Medicaid is the largest health care program in the United States and covers more than 50 million people. Under Medicaid states receive federal matching funds to provide health care for low-income individuals. Medicaid coverage is critical to the health care of millions of women. More than 16 million women receive their basic health and long-term coverage through Medicaid. In 2003, Medicaid covered one in ten women and one in five low-income women. In 2003, 11.5% of women of reproductive age were covered by Medicaid. It is not transmitted through blood or body fluids. Genital HPV targets the moist mucous membranes surrounding the genitals. The most common form of transmission is direct contact between the infected skin on the penis, scrotum, vagina, vulva, or anus and the uninfected skin in the same areas of the partner’s body. Recognition of HPV can be difficult. Many people with HPV are asymptomatic, and the latency period for HPV (the time from date of infection to actual development of HPV) may be many months to years. Sometimes, you or your health – care provider may see the HPV lesions. If your sexual partner has a definitive diagnosis, then you are likely to be carrying the virus as well. Without a visual confirmation of the disease, HPV may be identified through viral screening. Sometimes, the Pap Smear will show changes indicative of HPV.
