TAMPA THERAPY LLC, TAMPA

Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counseling Psychology and School Psychology from Dr. Barbash’s specialized training in trauma and PTSD has allowed her to focus her clinical work on helping individuals who have experienced psychological trauma or PTSD, as well other trauma reactions (e.g, depression, anxiety, anger, and relationship problems). She is certified in Eye-Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Prolonged Exposure (PE), which are three gold-standard evidence-based treatments for trauma and PTSD. Additionally, she has extensive experience working with other problem areas and is trained in multiple evidence-based treatments for depression and anxiety, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She also has significant experience conducting psychological testing and providing pre-marital and marital therapy to couples. She is a current premarital counseling provider for the Hillsborough County Clerk of Court. Chloe is a friendly Boston Terrier who enjoys helping patients feel more relaxed. An abundance of research has been conducted on the human-animal bond and the positive benefits of including dogs in the psychotherapy process. Animals can bring about an immense sense of security, healing, and emotional support. In case of an emergency, please dial 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room. If someone is having thoughts of suicide please call the Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255. We DO NOT see walk-ins or provide emergency services on site. EMDR is a unique and powerful therapy for helping people deal with stress, trauma, painful memories and places in their lives where they are stuck. EMDR specifically targets traumas that have been “locked” in the brain, but can also be used for events that are not considered trauma in the traditional sense, such as ongoing teasing while in school, chronic childhood illness, etc. Psychological testing is a process of problem-solving through the administration of tests and other procedures to help understand a person and their behavior, personality, and capabilities. It is used to best determine the core components of a person’s psychological or mental health problems, personality, IQ, or some other component. Depression is more common than one might think – in fact, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, approximately 6.7 percent of the United States population over age 18 is affected by depression and it is the leading cause of disability for Americans ages 15 to 44.3. However, there are extremely effective, therapies that can greatly help reduce or eliminate depression. Dr. Barbash, owner of Tampa Therapy, LLC, has been interviewed and featured as a mental health expert on NBC, Fox, ABC, and CBS news networks. Dr. Barbash is also a contributing blogger for Psychology Today and other national mental health sources. We are located at 4320 W. Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa. In case of an emergency, please dial 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room. If someone is having thoughts of suicide please call the Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.
