Taylor-Wilton Nelson Ltd. has been locally owned and operated since 1946, when Jack Taylor and Hedley Wilton partnered to create a much needed automotive parts store. The first Taylor & Wilton was located on Baker Street. When the business outgrew that location, Taylor & Wilton moved to the 500 block of Vernon Street. TWN shared this location with the bowling alley. Jack Taylor bought Taylor & Wilton from Hedley Wilton and in 1967 built the store at 509 Front Street. When Jack Taylor was ready to retire he sold the business to Allan MacDonald and Roy Evans, who were both employees. In 1975 Roy Evans sold his portion of the business to Allan and Mary MacDonald. Allan and Mary MacDonald ran the family owned business until 1999. Mary was the bookkeeper and Allan (Mac as everyone knew him) took care of the parts side of the store. Brian, John and Randy owned the business together. Brian and John were in the Nelson store. Randy ran the Salmo store until the fall of 2008. Al Colley took charge of the Salmo store until it was finally closed on November 30, 2010. In 2004 the business at the Front Street location was bursting at the seams, the dreaded move was about to happen. Armed with staff, reps and family, TWN moved on June 1, 2004 to our current location of 624 Lakeside Drive. 14 years later, we are still going strong. In 2008 Brian Peel became the sole owner of the company. To this day Taylor-Wilton Nelson Ltd. still believes in treating our customers as if it was 1946. “Where everyone knows your name”, you get a friendly smile and a greeting when you walk in the door. We don’t just sell parts, we try to make your visit an adventure and the coffee is brewed fresh daily. Brian started with TWN in September 1975 when he was still in high school. He moved to Nelson at the age of 10 and has been here ever since. Brian does know the business inside and out as he has done it all. His first position with TWN was cleaning the store, then to delivery driver, to shipper/receiver to counterman. In 2008 he became the sole owner of the company. Brian believes in treating people as he would like to be treated, that’s why the staff at TWN is happy.
