Dean joined Central Pacific Bank (“CPB”) in 2010, leading the recapitalization effort that paved the way for the bank's recent successes. From 1993 to 2001, he served as the CEO of Silicon Valley Bank, a leading provider of financial services to early-stage technology companies and venture capital firms. John grew Silicon Valley Bank's market capitalization from $65 million in 1993 to over $3 billion in 2000. Also, he led the creation of the company's own venture investment business, with the launch of the company's first two venture capital funds in 2000. This included a $150 million fund of funds, and a $65 million direct equity fund. John also has many years of experience investing in technology companies. He has served as Managing Director of Tuputele Ventures Fund, LLC, a small private equity fund investing in early-stage technology companies and venture capital funds. He is an investment director for various venture capital firms, both in the U.S. and overseas, including Advanced Technology Venture (ATV), Institutional Venture Fund (IVP), Walden International, and Authosis Capital. John serves as an advisor or director of various technology companies. He is a graduate of Holy Cross College, a former Peace Corps Volunteer in Western Samoa and a graduate of the Wharton School with an MBA in Finance. In 2001, Dean was recognized by Forbes as one of the “50 most powerful dealmakers.” More recently, he was recognized as Hawaii Business Magazine’s 2012 CEO of the Year, Sales and Marketing Executives International Honolulu’s 2012 Salesperson of the Year; 2012 Pacific Business News’ Business Leader of the Year; and 2012 Pacific Buddhist Academy Inspirational Leader. Dean's community involvement includes being the Founding Chairman of Entrepreneurs Foundation of Hawaii, founder and sponsor of Kipapa i ke Ala Lecture Series at the University of Hawaii’s Shidler College of Business, and a Director of the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship and E-Business (PACE) at the business school of the University of Hawaii. He also serves on the boards of Hawaii Community Foundation, 'Iolani School, Blue Planet Foundation, and is on the Advisory Board of Catholic Charities Hawaii. Laura is a founding General Partner of StarVest Partners, a New York-based venture capital firm with approximately $400 million under management that is funding technology-enabled business services companies throughout the US. StarVest gained national recognition in 2007 as the lead venture capital firm in NetSuite, whose December 2007 initial public offering opened with a $1.6 billion market capitalization, the highest market capitalization of any venture capital-backed technology IPO since Google. Laura is an experienced entrepreneur and private equity investor. She has founded three successful entities, was an early identifier of the growth in digital media and has invested for over a decade in technology-enabled business services companies. As a founding partner of StarVest, in addition to serving on the board of Switchfly, she has been active with StarVest's investments in Connected Corporation (acquired by Iron Mountain in 2004), MessageOne (software-as-a-service company acquired by Dell Computer in 2008), Newgistics (acquired by a PE firm in 2013), iCrossing (acquired by Hearst in 2010), Fieldglass (acquired by Madison Dearborn in 2010), ideeli (acquired by Groupon in 2014), PrecisionDemand (acquired by AOL TimeWarner in 2014), Veracode (leading on-demand SaaS software security platform), NewComLink (a payment network platform that connects retail consumers) and RetailNext (leading data and analytics company within retail). Laura was the Founding Chairman of the New York New Media Association Angel Investors Program. Laura has a BA from Barnard College, Columbia University, a MBA from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and she is a member of WPO and a former member of YPO (Young President's Organization. In addition to Switchfly, he currently serves on the board of directors of Blurb, Cardlytics and UrbanSitter. Prior to Canaan, John held operational and financial roles in private equity and at startups, where he learned how to both fund and build technology companies. John received a B.S. in electrical engineering and an M.B.A. from Cornell University. In addition to a large reservoir of solid business skills and judgment, Jeff brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and connections in the transportation and distribution space where he’s spent the bulk of his career. Jeff began his career with American Airlines, spending 14 years in a variety of Corporate Development and Finance roles. He managed the legal separation of Sabre, Inc. from American Airlines, and in 1998, left to become EVP and Chief Financial Officer of the stand-alone company. During his 13 years at Sabre, both as Chief Financial Officer and as EVP, Corporate Development, Jeff managed the Sabre initial public offering, completed over 25 acquisitions and divestitures of more than $8 billion in value, managed the globalization of the Sabre organization and completed the sale of the company to a group of private equity firms, thereby taking Sabre, Inc. private. During his Sabre tenure, he also served on the board of Travelocity.
