is head of Jungala, A tight knit crew of talented Dj’s and Co-founding promoter/resident of (Torque) ‘Florida’s longest running drum & bass weekly’ established in 1999. The weekly residence has allowed ‘Collaborator’ to DJ and MC every week for the past 16 years in Orlando. A bubbling personality and artist in the community he has promoted numerous events in Orlando, Miami, NYC, and played to crowds all over the US. His travels with his partner Melissa McAvoy had him falling in love with wine on trips to Napa, Sonoma, and Russian river valley. Alway a dreamer, Damian came back to Orlando determined to open a wine joint and started scouting locations in the Sodo area in 2015. Soon landing a perfect space to fulfill the dream, Melissa & D. started laying down the plans and took a chance. The rest is Swirlery History. Melissa J. McAvoy has been an Orlando local since 1998 originally hailing from the Garden State New Jersey. Influenced heavily by her family this Irish Italian girl started in the hospitality industry at Town Tavern Steak House rolling silverware with her nana in Little Falls NJ. The next position would be as a busgirl at the age of 14 at a French restaurant in Port St. Lucie FL where her mentorship would begin at Le Brittany. With a degree from UCF in business administration and a minor in horticulture a well rounded passionate women was molded. She is one of the promoter s of Torque- Florida’s longest running dance music event bringing international talent weekly for 16 years alongside her partner of 19 years Damian Roman, and close friend Kevin Harrell. She has been working at the Grand Floridian, Walt Disney World’s flagship resort for 14 years at Citricos- a specialty restaurant with an award winning wine list. In 2013 the summer of wine began with her induction to the court of Master Sommeliers. She had become a certified sommelier in the spring of 2014, and was invited to take her advanced course spring of 2015. Melissa is an active member of her community mentoring sommeliers, and creating a tasting group to further their knowledge. She currently opened Swirlery – a wine tasting shop where she can involve the community of Orlando with her love affair of all things wine. “Most of the installation at Swirlery was based on Melissa and Damian’s faith that it would turn out decent. They let me run with it, and I’m pretty pleased now to sit back, sip on a good wine, and gaze at the wall. The wood at Swirlery has some interesting stories, feel free to ask when you pop in.” Swirlery Wine bar in South Orlando Swirlery is a wine bar, tasting room, and retail shop.
