John has been in the arboricultural industry for over 37 years and has always been interested in trees.  As a boy growing up in West Monroe, Louisiana, he helped his father in their family-owned sawmill.  It was there he began to learn about trees - everything from forest survey and logging, to cutting timber for finished products.  After serving in the US Air Force, he returned to the tree business in Birmingham, Alabama where he worked as a tree climber.  In 1986, John was certified as an arborist by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, and in 1992 he became an ISA Certified Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture.  In 1988, John moved to South Florida and worked as a foreman with a local tree service before launching his own business, Sutton Consulting Arborist, Inc. in 1996..., He became a Certified Landscape Inspector through the Landscape Inspectors Association of Florida in 2002, and in 2006 became a graduate of The American Society of Consulting Arborist Academy.  Over time, John has enhanced  his practical experience with formal education by attending numerous seminars including University of Florida Tropical Palms and Cycads Short Course (Fall 1997), Broward County Tree and Landscape Ordinance Seminar (Spring 2000), Florida Trees 2001-2011 , Trees of Florida 2004-2006,  various courses on tree  Appraisals, Native Habitats and Current Utility Arboriculture. He continues his education annually through various seminars and workshops. John’s professional experience has been earned while working in varying inter-regional climates from North Carolina to California and Florida to the Caribbean.  John has served invaluable consulting roles in a wide variety of landscaping projects from golf course construction and industrial park development to college campuses.  In addition, he provides advice for the care of many historical and champion trees such as The Champion Green Buttonwood tree located in Palm Beach, Florida which is the oldest and largest of its kind in the United States.  John's arboricultural expertise has helped many clients achieve and maintain acres of flourishing flora and trees, most notably Trump International Golf Club, The Boca Resort and Club, and The Breakers Resort of Palm Beach.  After the 2004-05 hurricanes, hundreds of Resorts and golf courses from Orlando to Key West were appraised for damages to trees and landscapes by John and his company, Sutton Consulting Arborist, Inc. We have dealt with a wide variety of landscaping projects throughout the state, including world-famous resorts and golf clubs. We pride ourselves on the fact that we charge a flat hourly rate for any size project, whether it is simply relocating a large tree, trimming a canopy, or completely overseeing the design and implementation of a multi-faceted landscaping project. We are fully certified and we belong to a number of Florida-specific horticultural associations including the Florida Landscape Inspectors Association and the Palm Beach Chapter of the Florida Arborist Association.
