Who We Are Sunshine State Adoption and Home Study Services was founded by Debra Hewitt in 2010. Starting her company was simply the next step in a career that spans over 20 years and has always been connected to working with children and families. As a resident of Orlando since she was four-years old, “Sunshine State” seemed a fitting name when she founded her own non-profit organization to serve the Florida adoption community. Debra holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Central Florida and Nova Southeastern University, respectively. Debra has worked with adoptive families, providing home studies and adoption services for over 17 years. Debra employs a team of social workers to help her offer services to the entire State of Florida. All of her social workers are experienced and their passion for helping families goes way beyond the paperwork. Debra has helped over 1,000 families. On the personal side, Debra truly understands the emotional roller coaster of adoption, which ends in the ultimate thrill: a family. She and her husband, John, have three adopted children that bring joy to their lives every single day. Debra is active in the central Florida adoption community, providing support to waiting families and to those who already have a placement of a child, but may still have questions from the most simple to emotional and complex. Throughout her career, Debra has helped over 1,000 children find a permanent home with loving parents. When she finds a brief moment of downtime, Debra enjoys running, reading, sewing and yoga. Stacy has been working in child welfare since graduating from Florida State University in 2007. She has experience working with families through the dependency system, as well as helping people create families through adoption. Stacy has expertise in the following adoption areas: special needs, relative, domestic, international, embryo, as well as private and state adoptions. Stacy covers the Florida Panhandle. Hillary Robbins brings a wealth of expertise to Sunshine State Adoption and Home Study Services. She previously worked for the United States Courts, where she followed a best practice model in ethics and confidentiality, especially when work involved high profile cases. Following Hillary’s career with the federal government, she successfully transitioned into the corporate world of Pharmaceutical Sales. Before joining the team at Sunshine, Hillary completed certification in non-profit management and worked as a consultant for government agencies, small businesses and non-profit organizations. Throughout her professional career, Hillary was the recipient of numerous awards and recognition by both corporate and community leaders, peers and the State of Florida. The Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance recognized Hillary’s writing and research accomplishments and selected her as a peer reviewer of grant applications for the agency. As Sunshine’s Director of Research and Review, Hillary’s qualifications and experience provide clients with trusted expertise and guidance. to provide any of our adoption services, including home studies, adoption consulting and guidance through the adoption process.
