Sunrise Swimming is a competitive swimming club located in Sunrise, Florida. We are proud to be members of USA Swimming and its local governing body, the Florida Gold Coast. Our competitive program excels at developing young athletes in reaching their utmost potential through quality instruction. Our coaching staff  focuses on all aspects of the individual, not just the athlete. Loyalty, commitment, and a solid work ethic are just a few characteristics that Sunrise Swimming instills in all swimmers, allowing for a quality program. Sunrise Swimming began in 1998 as the Sunrise Seahawk Swim Team. Coach Garry Nelson founded the team after moving from Broward Community College.  In 2001, Coach Dave Wathen became the Head Coach and renamed the team Sunrise Swimming.  Under his direction we produced several nationally ranked age-groupers and a Top 10 finish at the Florida Gold Coast Junior Olympics.  In 2003, Coach Dave became the National Team coach for the Plantation Swim Team (PST).  Sunrise Swimming became a satellite of PST at that time.   In 2013, Coach Dave retired from the City of Plantation, and Sunrise returned to being an independent program:  Sunrise Swimming.   Our club is a USS year round full-service aquatics program, offering a competitive swim team, both private and group lessons, and a master’s program for adults.  We provide high quality professional instruction for all ages and abilities. The goal of our progams is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability, from novice to international competitor. All of our coaches, as members of the American Swim Coaches Association, have access to the most comprehensive training and certification program for youth coaches of any sport in the United States. They provide assurances that the time children spend in swimming will be quality time. We are constantly growing and training young swimmers in order to maintain a well rounded aquatics program and competitive swim team. Thank you for joining us. We are looking forward to meeting you. Co-Owner of Sunrise Swimming.  Christi was an All-American swimmer at the University of Florida.  She has been teaching swimming since 1980 and coaching since 1997.  She brings this experience and knowledge to our team.  She is currently working with the Strokes-n-Fun group.   Coach Christi also manages the office and heads Sunrise Swimming’s Lesson Program.  Co-Owner of Sunrise Swimming, Dave has been working with young swimmers since 1978.  He currently has his Level 5 ASCA Certification, which is the highest achievement level for coaches in the United States.  Several of his athletes have been National Age-Group stars and many have gone on to succeed at the college and Olympic Trial levels.  He provides guidance to all coaches on staff. June helped out with all levels of the program from 2001 until 2015.  She taught and coached swimming since 1970.   She was an invaluable asset to our program and we miss her every day.
