It was near the end of the quarter, we’d won some big deals but we had a series of new competitors making major strides against our platform, our solution wasn’t evolving as quickly, and the market was sensing it.
Developers we debating product ideas, sales teams were getting dragged into conversations that neither added value to the client nor closed business, and marketing was ping-ponging between campaigns.
It was then that Tim struck through the cloud of doubt and called us back to action, and back to the core of business: execution. The pound-the-rock-until-it-cracks type of diligent effort required to make it happen.
I’m proud to say I was part of those teams, and that I am now helping clients learn from what tech leaders like Tim were able to inspire in us.
No matter your market, your competition, or your mission, stay focused, get pen to paper, fingers to keyboard, and execute. Everyone else is typing or writing one letter at a time too, it’s a level playing field if you play hard.
…your business matters, your struggles can be overcome, and your life can generate significant enough meaning to transcend its struggles with joy, courage, and fortitude.
I recall the times in my life when I felt overwhelmed, adrift on the fearsome waves of life, lacking a bold mission to pull me into the future. A dream that could drive me to smash through the salty waves of resistance and conjure up the wild and relentless courage within to overcome my challenges.
Just as our hearts and minds find passion in the big WHY’s, we are drawn to brands that echo these foundational sentiments. The great leaders behind them pull us into their orbit by the gravity of their mission, and the grandeur of their vision.
What about the poor performing businesses? And those people that are overwhelmed by life? Often brands are too WHAT focused to resonate with us, and as people they often drift in the dramas of life without a purpose. To use Mr. Sinek’s example of Apple, they don’t sell computers, they challenge the status quo. To their customers, their products feel more like extension of a daring social movement or an artistic revolution than a “device.”
