THE MISSION: Strings in Need is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing students from ALL economic and cultural backgrounds, with many different abilities, with expert musical training. In the seventh grade, Rebeccah Lipson heard a story about a boy whose parents had given him a $20,000 violin. The boy couldn’t care less about the violin and would forget to take it with him and maintain it. She found it unfair that one student, blessed with a beautiful instrument, would barely use it, while other less fortunate students, with greater interest, couldn’t afford instruments of their own. So, Rebeccah founded Strings in Need to helping students obtain their very own string instruments and affordable lessons. Strings in Need is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to bringing quality instruments and expert music instruction to young people at prices affordable for all families. Founded by Rebeccah Lipson, our organization believes music can make a significant difference in a young person’s life. Through patron support, Strings in Need matches professional instructors with students, ensuring that every young person who earnestly wishes to pursue an interest in music has the opportunity to join this community of musicians. Additionally, Strings in Need works with other area non-profits to conduct music lessons and provide instruments for student learning. Currently, more than 45 students studying guitar, piano, voice, or beginner music benefit from Strings in Need each month. Strings in Need is bridging the gap between students and music through instruments, lessons, and a community centered around music. WHAT IS STRINGS IN NEED? WHAT DOES STRINGS IN NEED OFFER STUDENTS? HOW DOES STRINGS IN NEED DETERMINE LESSON FEES? We use a sliding scale fee structure to ensure that we are offering: WHO CAN STUDY MUSIC WITH STRINGS IN NEED? Our primary mission is to serve students that would not otherwise be able to afford lessons and instruments, however, we offer Guitar, Piano, Voice to ALL students. Building a community of musicians from all walks of life, from all different cultures, from all different socioeconomic environments is really important to us.
