I, like Leo, worked for him for a couple of years and offered to buy HIM out. We came to a deal and in 2004 I was the new owner. So now here’s the thing. The business was doing so well that I as the new owner did NOT want to change a thing. That included the name of the place that every one had come to know for years and years. Thats why it’s not called Steve’s barbershop. Leo continues to cut hair at this place still to this day. During the great migration of the late 90’s and early 2000’s every body started to move from New Port Richey out towards little road (trinity). So I did a little survey of our clientele to see where people were driving from. The results showed that over half of our clients were coming from the new trinity area. This prompted me to expand the business to little road and in 2007 I opened the second Leo’s. With lots of help from some great barbers I have manage to run both shop successfully for about 10 years. In march of 2017 I made the decision to sell the original Leo's shop to JT. JT is the person that was helping me manage that shop for the last couple years. After coming to a deal we decided to change the name of that shop to “The Original BarberShop”. The name makes sense right? So any ways, JT is doing really well as a shop owner and is taken advantage of having Leo there for guidance and advice. The reason I kept the name Leo’s is because, well lets face it, It sounds much better then Steve’s barber shop.
Leo’s Mission
Our mission is to incorporate the values of the old time barbershop environment into with the modern business model. This, to Steve, does not mean to turn the business into a franchise. “There are some unique properties in the classic barbershop that just can’t be mass replicated,” says Steve. The relationship between the barbers, the shop, and the owner is the reason why Leo’s is so successful. The key is that most of the revenue that comes through the shop stays in the hands of the barbers that work there.
My philosophy is to build a place where the best barbers want to work. Sounds easy right? Well let me tell you friend it is harder then you think. Many new shop owners have tried and failed. While some have succeeded. The point where you reach critical mass is when you have the right amount of customers to the right amount of great barbers.
I am new to the area and moved my business a few blocks from Leo's. I haven't been to a barber in years and went off a suggestion to visit TJ at Leo's Barbershop. NO sooner than I walked in the door I was escort to a chair! TJ gave fast friendly service with a great haircut and the finishing... neckline... eyebrows.. nose and ear hair is fantastic... I'll be back for sure.
