My name is Alessandro Ferri, and I am the founder of State of Mind Canine LLC. I was always that person (and still am) that probably spent more time with your dog then I did with you.
I began volunteering for local shelters and rescues while pursuing a degree in Zoology. During this period, I realized how much more help dogs needed in finding and retaining homes than these facilities could offer. Then Zoey came in. Petrified by everything, Zoey was a pit bull mix who was so scared that she was moved into Isolation to allow other dogs to be seen and adopted instead. That day, I took Zoey home so we could work through her issues together. Looking into her eyes when we got home and seeing only fear was a devastating feeling. It's as if she wished she could just disappear. For the next few weeks, she spent her time cowering under tables or trembling in the corner. Potty breaks consisted of carrying her outside and letting her go to the bathroom as she ran back into the house. As time went by, it seemed as if our furniture moved more than she did, but slowly, I gained her trust. Now, I'm proud to say she is a part of my permanent pack and doing great - she loves walks, playing and running around like a normal, happy dog!
The next dog I took in was on his way to a euthanasia appointment with his owners. They pulled into my local park for a potty break, a cloth muzzle covering his face, his icey blue eyes looking around, confused by his new surroundings. I learned of his fate while talking to his owners, glancing down at him feeling sorry. I ended up leaving the park that day, his leash in my hand, determined to help him through his problems. Now this dog had every problem in the book, every category of aggression I knew...human, dog, territorial, dominant, food...you name it, he had it.His separation anxiety was so bad that he would break out of any crate, tear down any door, regardless of the injury to himself. If he couldn't find his way out, I'd come back to find him in a puddle of his own drool. While we made huge strides in his behavior, so much so that he would join my
From now on, you're not alone. When you join the State of Mind Canine family, with me at your side, you can rest assured that I've been in your shoes. Whatever the problem is with your dog, I've lived it with one of mine. The biggest lesson I have taken away from all the trainers I have learned from and my experiences is this: look at WHY a dog is behaving the way they are, not WHAT that behavior is. Determining and understanding the root of the problem, the source of the behavior, is what will ultimately lead to successful and positive changes..
