ST. MICHAEL'S CHURCH, ORLANDO

“Radical, reckless love” is how Father Rick Luoni describes God’s pursuit of His people. As Rector of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Fr. Rick believes that salvation is about wholeness in the here and now, with the church a place to experience the beauty and love that is Christ With Us. After 7+ years as Rector of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Summerville, SC and as Assistant Priest at the Sullivan’s Island Church of the Holy Cross, Fr. Rick and his wife, Katrena, were called to St. Michael’s in September 2015. Originally from West Virginia, Fr. Rick earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Concord College and spent many years as a business executive and owner in the advertising, marketing and television fields. His career took him from Charlotte, NC to San Francisco, where he felt God’s call to ordained ministry. A 2005 graduate of San Francisco Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree, Fr. Rick has ministered with Kairos Prison Ministry, Alcoholics Anonymous, Cursillo, and served in development and leadership training roles for Episcopal churches. His ministry philosophy is simple at St. Michael’s – love God, love each other, and serve the world. His approach is for church to be relevant, friendly, open, and fun. His hobbies include the martial arts, and he is a fifth degree Black Belt, having once owned a Chuck Norris karate school. Fr. Rick often walks the College Park neighborhoods, praying along the way with a phrase he uses in most Sunday services at St. Michael’s, “Whatever your background, however you see God today, no matter how challenging your journey, we welcome and accept you and trust God will take you where he wants you to go, in His timing. You belong here.” Tiffany joined the St. Michael’s staff in 2008 after being an active volunteer with the Children’s Ministry and Alpha at St. Michael’s for five years. She enjoys having children accompany her on her walk with God. Tiffany’s pride and joy is her family. She is married to Todd for 15 years, and together they have three children. She enjoys most being on a boat with her family for a full day of fishing. The Episcopal Church, established shortly after the American Revolution, has its roots in the Anglican Church. The Anglican Church, known as the Church of England, had a strong following in colonial America. But when the colonies won their independence, the majority of America Anglican clergy refused to swear allegiance to the British monarch as was required. As a result, the Episcopal Church was formed. The vibrancy of the Anglican Communion reflects the lives of its congregants and their commitment to God’s mission in the world. learn more about confirmation , or have been away from the Episcopal Church for a period of time, and are interested in membership, we can assist you with the necessary steps, or verification, of Baptism, Confirmation and commitment to St. Michael’s as your parish home, as they apply to you. The St. Michael’s congregation comprises lifelong Episcopalians along with a wide range of parishioners who grew up in Protestant, Roman Catholic and Orthodox denominations. In 1948 St. Michael’s was established as the first new congregation in the Orlando area since St. Luke’s, All Saints, and St. John’s. It began life in Duckworth’s Garage and soon graduated to a rented building on Edgewater Dr. The first building was built in 1951 on property acquired in 1950. This served as the church sanctuary until 1958 and it was renovated and rededicated in 1984 as Quigley Hall. A rectory was built on adjacent property, which eventually became the church office until November of 1996. In 1958 the present church sanctuary was completed. The Rev. F. Vernon Quigley conducted the first service there and served until his retirement in June 1986. There were years of rapid growth paralleling development in the area. During the Summer of 1998 the installation of the Walker Harris Organ built by Andover Organ Company, Methuen, Ma. was completed. In 2002, the west end of the church was completely renovated, and we were Blessed with the addition of a new Rose Window. The mission of St. Michael’s vestry is to seek God’s guidance in our work to build community, act in concert with the rector, and pursue our responsibilities and goals in accord with the core values and mission statement of St. Michael’s. Support and help St. Michael’s organizational structure by providing leadership and funding for guilds/committees. Vestry meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month except for July. All parishioners are welcome to attend the regular Vestry sessions. There is generally a Finance meeting prior to the Vestry meeting, which is also open to parishioners. Please contact the church office to confirm meetings times and dates.
