ST. AUGUSTINE MUSIC FESTIVAL INC., Jacksonville

Conceived as a free classical music concert series to celebrate the rich artistic and cultural traditions of St. Augustine, the annual festival has become a highlight of the summer season. SAMF provides the opportunity for attendees to deepen their appreciation for this beautiful genre of music in an environment that is dignified, uplifting, and welcoming for all. The historic provides excellent acoustics and the backdrop for the festival. Menendez landed at the harbor of a native Timucuan settlement and founded what is now the oldest permanently occupied European settlement in the United States. The origins of the Cathedral Parish can be traced to this site, now the Mission Nombre de Dios, about two miles north of the current Cathedral Basilica. since 2007, thanks to the gracious permission and welcome of the parish. As a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2007, pianist Leon Fleisher was recognized as a “consummate musician whose career is a testament to the life-affirming power of art.” Together with Leon Fleisher, she recorded the Mozart "Concerto for Two Pianos", K. 242 with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra (Sony Classical). In 2015, the CD Four Hands was released featuring Ms. Jacobson and Mr. Fleisher (Sony Classical). They have recently commissioned a two-piano concerto by composer Nicholas Jacobson-Larson. One of the few professional string trios in existence today, the Diaz Trio has become one of the finest chamber ensembles in the United States. Composed of three internationally acclaimed artists, Andrés Cárdenes, Roberto Diaz and Andrés Diaz, the trio performs regularly in recital and at festivals around the world. In 1993 at the invitation of Isaac Stern, the trio performed at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall to celebrate the next one hundred years of music-making at Carnegie Hall. Other appearances include performances in Los Angeles, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Boston, Austin, and Lincoln Center in New York, as well as the Mostly Mozart Festival at Kennedy Center, Newport Festival, Cape and Islands Chamber Music Festival, Festival de San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, St. Cyprien International Festival of the Arts in Cyprien, France, the Kuhmo Festival in Finland, and an extensive tour of Chile. Their debut tours of Canada, in collaboration with Canadian pianist Angela Cheng and guitarist Norbert Kraft, were a resounding success. Our mission is to educate, elevate and entertain with the finest concerts for all, whether connoisseur or newcomer to classical music. The St. Augustine Music Festival is the largest, FREE classical music festival in the USA. Over 6 days during the last 2 weeks in June, audiences enjoy world-class musicians from the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra joining internationally known guest artists to perform in the acoustically splendid St. Augustine Cathedral Basilica. Programs bring audiences everything from Bach to Stravinksy, intimate solo recitals, chamber music ensembles, and full orchestral works... plus world-premier presentations of new works. Thanks to donations and sponsorships, the concerts are open to the public with no paid admission ticket required.
