Additionally, there is limited funding available to provide outside recreational and dental care. Caregivers and therapists often struggle just to find adequate funding for basic care and treatment of this population group. Through the philanthropy of Special Day Foundation, children and adults with special needs are exposed to dental services that improve oral healthcare and socialization opportunities through outdoor recreation that helps to increase self-esteem and enrich the quality of their day-to-day lives. Special Day Foundation , a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit based in the Sarasota/Bradenton area of Florida, provides opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities to experience the physical, therapeutic and social value of nature-based recreational activities and specialized dental care. The Special Day Foundation began its mission in 2008. Special Day Foundation by providing funding for the programs that provide dental care to special needs patients. Special Day Foundation, Accompanied by family and/or caregivers and SDF volunteers, special needs children and adults are able to participate in boat tours of the natural inland and coastal waterways around us, adaptive fishing, and various social event experiences are possible as well. Most outings are conducted year-round. They are provided at no cost to the special needs community through gracious individual donations and SDF support. The Foundation, headquartered in Bradenton Beach, is dedicated to making these specific recreational pursuits more fun, more often, for people with physical and developmental disabilities. It’s an adventure that can be therapeutic, exhilarating and rewarding for participants, caregivers, family, and friends alike! Prior to the start of each fiscal year, applications filed by individuals who have a developmental disability diagnosis will be selected via a random lottery system. Selected applicants will be eligible to receive specialized dental care services for the care cycle identified above. Services will be provided on-site and/or at the University of Florida Dental Clinic located in Seminole. Special Day Foundation, Inc. Special Day Foundation relies heavily on contributions from individuals, foundations, corporations and community groups. Donations help to cover costs associated with providing specialized dental care and nature-based opportunities to special needs children and adults.
