Your first visit will be a thorough evaluation followed by a discussion of our findings. We generally schedule you for 1 or 1.5 hours. This will allow us to be thorough as well as to give you time to get to know us. The exam will begin in the treatment consultation room. You will be able to sit with us “toe to toe” while we discuss your particular wants and needs as well as your dental and medical history. We don’t enjoy talking discussing important matters while you are laid back in a dental chair and we are sure you probably don’t appreciate that either. After we discuss your needs and when you are comfortable, we will complete a full evaluation which will consist of xrays if needed, an oral cancer screening, evaluation of all your teeth and gums. Once finished, we will meet with you again in our consultation room so that we will be able to properly discuss treatment options as well as alternatives. So that we can properly prepare you, we typically do not schedule initial exams and treatment on the same day; we want to make sure you have all the information you need, and that all of your questions are answered prior to any treatment being provided. A large majority of people don’t know what a Periodontist is until they are referred to one. That’s ok! Feel free to ask as many questions as you need to feel completely comfortable. Dr. Tyler M. Blackenburg and his staff will provide you with all the information you need to make the decision that is best for you.
