The US manufacturing base began to seriously erode and move offshore in the 1990’s with the relaxation of import tariffs, trade agreements, and the emergence of China as a low cost producer. While nobody could have predicted the rapid shrinkage and disappearance of so many American industries and jobs, the laws of supply and demand always prevail. David Blum, founder of Sourcerers, worked in the domestic garment industry for 19 years when the opportunity arose to take a trip to China to inspect a container of jackets. From this initial trip, and utilizing his contacts in the Promotional Products industry, David formed Sourcerers for the purpose of producing and importing hats, clothing, and small promotional items such as playing cards, pens, and drinkware. His ability in the domestic market was threatened by the exit of domestic manufacturing, and thus the opportunity to capitalize on the supply side was born with Sourcerers. Even while involved in a mattress import business, David began to see an increased request for a wide range of products and opportunities for Sourcerers. Quickly learning the painful lessons of importing and the pitfalls of absentee manufacturing, Sourcerers set up an office and production base in Nanchang. Having eyes and ears IN THE FACTORIES is the optimal and ONLY way to insure production is what was contracted for. The business grew and has included many Fortune 500 companies and strong brands. After 60+ trips to China, Sourcerers methods and systems have provided a strong, controllable business model that insures a quality and uninterrupted supply chain. PRODUCTION READY PRODUCT? With prototype or finished samples in hand, Sourcerers is able to provide relatively quick pricing and production details. We source many products and have resources for most items, its our pleasure to provide you pricing and options. Knowing your goals, expected volumes, growth potential, and focused markets can assist us in providing the optimal sampling and manufacturing platforms. We will make suggestions regarding your product, and offer our opinions on its viability and the timelines required to bring it to market. If you are looking to change your sourcing entity, then most likely you have had issues with quality, delivery times, price, or any combination of these. There are always uncertainties in manufacturing, but there should always be certainty in communications. The biggest fallacy in sourcing/importing, is that everything can be controlled. To a large extent, it can and should be. When changes occur, or need to occur, communicating this to our clients is a top priority. Often, the disappointments that occur in sourcing/importing are the result of a lack of communication early in the process as to what and should happen, and what CAN happen.
