Founded in 1973 by Ron Smith, SMITH'S HANG-UPS, INC. was initially established as a home maintenance and repair enterprise that later evolved into custom home building. Dissatisfied with the harsh New York winters, Mr. Smith relocated his family to South Florida in 1977. Upon realizing the local building industry's disregard for quality, he returned to focus on home maintenance while revitalizing distressed residential properties. In 1988, the venture expanded when Mrs. Smith acquired a small vertical blind business as a side project that eventually grew into a full-time endeavor by the late 1990s. Ron Smith took over the management of this segment, and his son Phil joined the company full time after high school. Although his involvement varied, Phil maintained an understanding of the window treatment industry. The family-driven enterprise, which has seen participation from multiple generations, currently includes operations in both home maintenance and window treatments. Eldest son Dave Smith established a separate window treatment business in Palm Beach County in 1981 with a philosophy centered on meticulous detail. The business is owned and managed by Phillip J Smith (PSD) and Erin L Smith (VPTD), and grandchild Michael has joined as the third generation family member involved in the company.
