As a kid, I always loved to watch Grandma cook and was so excited when I got old enough to help. When I was about 12, I saved my money to buy a sliding measuring teaspoon. While other girls were buying bows and jewelry, I was building my kitchen gadget supply!
My family moved around a lot and everywhere I went I picked up on local recipes. Gardening and cooking have always been my passion. My first few jobs were in restaurants. I started washing dishes, then moved up to waiting tables and helping with prep in the kitchen. While working at French Table Side in New Orleans, I waited on Vincent Price! Preparing delicious, unique food has been a life-long hobby for me and I’ve been known to make a 5 course meal for just me, myself, and I. After I met my husband Wade, we started a tree farm and raised kids on fresh foods, hogs, and chickens.
Once I finally made the choice to eat good food for good health that naturally resulted in much experimenting in the kitchen for the best quality healthy food for my family. Between my knowledge of food, my innate business sense, and Amanda’s expertise in marketing – I knew we had a recipe for success for foods made with only the finest ingredients. Taste and integrity at reasonable prices, imagine that! Every day I’m proud to make food that people love.
After earning my degree in Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and Management from the University of South Florida, I started working full-time in my field and still kept up the swimming lessons (it’s a great way to stay in shape!). I worked for local a marketing company and gained experience in social marketing, digital marketing, brand development, and communications.
When my mom approached me with her idea for Slow Foods Kitchen, I was all in. That first year was busy! I was still working full-time, teaching part-time, and planning a wedding – whew! But with her knowledge of food and my experience in marketing, we figured it was worth a shot. I’m glad we took the chance and I love how we are growing – one yummy bite at a time.
