SIMPLY NUTRILISTIC, LLC, Live Oak

Hey there! Let me introduce myself and share our story of how Simply Nutrilistic began. My name is CJ Lewis and I am a child of the Lord, Jesus Christ, a devoted wife and mother of 2 beautiful girls. I absolutely LOVE being a mom and watching our daughters grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Next to marrying my best friend and our daughters’ births, the greatest day for me so far, was the day they both accepted Christ into their hearts and were baptized. I can still hear the angels singing! The Lord has embarked this family on an amazing journey through which our character and faith has been tested and strengthened. We have learned even more so to rely on Him for our needs, strength, direction and healing. Lessons that I value. …such a strong word. According to thefreedictionary.com, the meaning of heal is “to restore to health or soundness; cure.” To truly heal from something, you have to identify the cause and treat the cause. In most cases, we simply put band-aids on the problems as we treat the symptoms. Sometimes, it takes us a while to realize that is what we are doing. Then, its like the light switch gets turned on and everything starts to make sense as we can actually see what is happening. That is what it was like for me. When our oldest daughter, Big Sis, was born, she had dry skin, unlike moist babies. Strange. Most babies have very soft, smooth skin. Not her. Her pediatricians repeatedly commented about her dry skin and reminded us to make sure she drank plenty of fluids (which she did), not to bathe to frequently and use baby lotion for the dryness. (Have you actually read the ingredients in baby lotion?) None of the lotion that I found seemed to help her skin. As she grew, she developed itchy spots that led to a medical diagnosis of eczema. Finally, we had a name. It was mild for several years, worsening a little during the summer heat and humidity. Not a good combination for eczema! Her skin would improve for a few days when we went to the beach. Good ole salt water. Those few days were nice! The recommended treatment was always the same – hydrocortizone cream to stop the itch, plenty of fluids, and lotion. We were warned to use the hydrocortizone sparingly as it does thin the skin. And yes, with frequent use, we actually did notice her skin thinning in spots. Her pediatricians never did visit the topic of food. In all fairness, I don’t think I ever thought to ask either. I did breastfeed for a few months, but then she was on formula. I did make her baby food, and she didn’t get very much processed foods. Knowing what I know now, I would have done many things differently. When Big Sis was about 4 or 5, I was told her liver did not functioning properly which is the reason for her eczema. Instead of her liver filtering out toxins and eliminating them like we are designed to do, her liver didn’t filter out the toxins well at all. (Kind of like when the plumbing in your house gets backed up.) So, her body eliminated them through her skin, which is our largest organ. She started on a supplement that seemed to help for a time. Still, nothing was mentioned about her diet. Over the next year, we realized healing was a gruesome and tedious process. Big Sis’ legs were so scratched up they bled and oozed. She spent 2 weeks home from school because she couldn’t straighten them out. Baths were a nightmare. My independent child suddenly became the baby. She and Li’l Sis had reversed roles. Trips to the grocery store were heart breaking. I pushed her around the store in a grocery cart as I did my shopping. Reading every label on anything I put in the buggy. We were frequently asked if she had the chicken pox – she had pimples all over her legs that actually resembled chicken pox. Sometimes it was easier to just say yes that to explain what was going on. We had started our healing journey, from the inside out. The way we are designed to heal. As her body shed the toxins through her skin, things looked worse before they got better. Given a chance, the body will heal internally first. Then the skin has its turn. I prayed for direction and insight along with healing for her. God directed my paths and open doors and showed me things I don’t think I would have seen or learned otherwise. I became a walking encylcopedia. There was a reason for this journey. The Lord allows us to experience things so we can help others. I was determined to stop putting band-aids on the problem and address the actual issues. For her, that meant dealing with food and environmental allergies & intolerances and giving up things she used to enjoy – like DQ ice cream and hershey’s chocolate. For me, that meant finding healthy substitutions so she didn’t feel totally left out. And more time in the kitchen. Good thing I like to be creative with food! strength. For His Will and His Glory. Through our journey, a lot about me has been revealed. Things I didn’t know about myself. About my God-given purpose. I discovered my love for health and nutrition. And helping others become healthier. The majority of our illnesses are connected to the health of our gut and our what we consume daily. It’s time to return to the basics and change the way we look at food. I received my Certified Natural Health Professional (CNHP) designation from Trinity School of Natural Heath in January 2017, and will graduate from Academy Epic in February 2018 with my Complimentary and Alternative Health Practitioner (CAHP) designation. I am not a doctor, just a mom on a mission. I cannot diagnose, treat, cure, or heal (only God can do that), but I can and will share the knowledge and wisdom God has given me. My passion and goal for Simply Nutrilistic is to help you improve your health and the health of your family. My prayer is that you will embark on this journey with me and share your stories as you journey to better health.
