President of Scherer Construction Doug Wilcox is the President of Scherer Construction of North Florida, LLC. After starting as a draftsman, superintendent, and project manager at Scherer Construction in St. Petersburg in 1987, he went on to open the Gainesville office in 1991, taking what was essentially a one person satellite office and turning it into the thriving 40 person operation it is today. Doug is a graduate of the University Of Florida Rinker School Of Building Construction and holds certifications as a General Contractor, a Roofing Contractor, and an Underground Utility and Excavation Contractor. As a balance to his professional life, Doug enjoys his time as a private airplane pilot and a hunting enthusiast. President of Scherer Construction Jim Crookston is the President of Scherer Construction of West Florida, LLC, located in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1984, he joined the company as a project manager and, while working closely with design staff, quickly developed a knack for attention to detail that has won him praise from both customers and subcontractors. Jim is a graduate of the Engineering Design program at Hoover Technical School in Canton, Ohio, and holds certification as a General Contractor and a Building Contractor. His work life is augmented by his participation at his church, being a father of six, and by his enjoyment as an avid, long distance cyclist. In 1984, with one truck, a garage for an office, and a degree from the School of Building Construction at the University of Florida., founder Clark Scherer created Scherer Construction. His goal was to create a company whose very basis was founded on delivering quality projects and exceeding the expectations of the customer by providing a seamless and trouble-free experience for them. This concept motivated Clark to focus his attention on the Design/Build turnkey concept. After three months, he hired Jim Crookston to help expand the business. One of their first projects was a 2,300 square foot Precision Tune Auto Care Center. Due to the success of this project, it was later followed by seven more of the same concept. As the business grew, more staff was needed to keep things running smoothly. In 1986, Clark invited Doug Wilcox to join the team. Doug eventually moved to Gainesville to attend the School of Building Construction at the University of Florida and had three projects ongoing while working from his dormitory room. In 1988, Clark Keator was brought on board. He then moved to start their Orlando, or Central Florida, office in 1990. In 1992, when Doug graduated from UF, he stayed in Gainesville and opened the North Florida office. Eventually there would be other offices in Georgia and Texas. Over the years, these offices completed work from Florida to California, in almost every imaginable commercial construction project including: all types of pre-engineered metal buildings, retail projects from interior remodels to town centers, masonry warehouses, tilt-up structures, hospital remodeling, various automotive projects, manufacturing plants, distribution facilities, pharmacies, grocery stores, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. Annual revenues grew to over $100 million. Now with three offices in Gainesville, Jacksonville, and St. Petersburg, Florida, Scherer Construction has the experience, capacity, and resources to meet the needs of any project throughout the southeastern United States.
