Valt’s global trading operations distribute asphalt to customers worldwide and benefits from access to the global network of terminals and refineries operated by Vitol. Sargeant Marine’s global trading operations distribute asphalt to customers worldwide and includes a strategically positioned terminal in Constanza, Romania. Valt trades circa 1.3 million metric tons of asphalt per annum, with hubs in Boca Raton – Florida, Geneva, London and Singapore, and operates a fleet of eleven specialised vessels – one of the world’s largest asphalt fleets. We provide specialist logistical solutions to deliver asphalt to our customers around the globe, many of them remote from refineries. We load and unload asphalt between vessel, ISO container, truck or drum. Our customers’ use of bitumen ranges from the construction of airports, such as the Hong Kong International Airport, to the supply of large volumes of bitumen for the North Trans-African Highway. We also supply asphalt products, including cutback and emulsions, which are shipped, railed or trucked to destinations around the globe. Bitumen and asphalt are terms that are often used interchangeably; however, bitumen is the black oil product while asphalt is a combination of bitumen and aggregate rock and sand. Bitumen is predominantly produced from refining crude but also occurs naturally. It is a very heavy, viscous material, is highly resistant to water and to environmental factors and has to be stored and transported at high temperatures (150 C / 300 F). Valt both owns and charters ships to deliver bitumen and asphalt products around the world Valt operates one of the largest fleets of asphalt ISO containers in the world. Supplying asphalt products in 20mt capacity ISO containers is often a more cost effective alternative to delivery in 55 gallon drums. We use containers to deliver supplies of asphalt products to areas where bulk terminals do not exist and to customers who want to avoid the logistics of handling large quantities of drums. The ATPC refinery in Antwerp is one of the largest dedicated, multi-product bitumen refineries in Europe. It has a processing capacity of 3,300 metric tons per day and has been producing paving, roofing and industrial bitumen for many years. It is ideally located in the middle of the North West Europe market and able to export products by truck, barge, or in ships up to 40,000 metric tons. Our truck customers benefit from very large onsite storage together with a highly automated 8-lane rack with 24/7 loading capabilities, ensuring constant product availability, high throughput and minimal wait time. Our Romania rack serves customers in Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Serbia, Hungary and Slovakia. Its seaborne import capability ensures low import costs while its rail and truck loading facilities provide mode flexibility. Valt was formed in March 2016, combining the expertise of the Vitol Group, the world’s leading independent energy trader, and Sargeant Marine, the world’s largest asphalt trading, storage and transportation business. The new business builds on the strength of the two groups.
