We're a small school doing some big things. This past year, The Roig Academy celebrated its 17th year serving children and youth in the Miami-Dade community. Since its inception, The Roig Academy has been providing an alternative educational milieu for students with a variety of learning strengths and areas of need and preparing them to be lifelong learners of the 21st century. The Roig Academy’s vision was the cumulative product between The Roig Academy’s founding Director Jennifer Roig and the learning community which it serves. In many years, that vision defined The Roig Academy as a hands-on approach to teaching and learning for families who were seeking the best educational opportunities for their children. The Roig Academy opened its doors in 2000 with a few dedicated employees. Yet it was those impassioned few employees who were guided by the original vision in order to deliver services unmatched by any other alternative. The drive to provide students with a hands-on and balanced approach to education shaped how all services at The Roig Academy would be delivered and the role of each member within its organization. Today, The Roig Academy provides educational services to a large population of students with a variety of learning strengths and needs and continues to offer a balanced, best practice approach to education. While The Roig Academy maintains the highest commitment to its vision established at its inception, The Roig Academy’s reach and impact continue to forge new territory beyond that original vision. Our dedication to providing exceptional services by creating students who are reflective, risk-takers, inquirers and lifelong learners remains our highest priority. However, that dedication extends to the ways in which we work with our stakeholders, collaborate with multidisciplinary services, help our community grow, innovate and evolve into the future as responsible citizens of a global community. We celebrate The Roig Academy Academy’s approach to teaching and learning as we nurture student growth in the 21st century. At The Roig Academy, we empower, nurture, and promote student achievement in a learning environment where children feel comfortable taking risks in order to inquire, explore and reflect upon their learning. The Roig approach; Reflect, Observe, Inquire and Grow (ROIG), encourages our students to develop the necessary skills that allow them to be successful learners in our global community. Through the facilitation of this approach, our students are able to grow both personally and socially, developing 21st century skills such as collaboration, cooperation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and creative and critical thinking. Our approach is unique in its commitment to bringing a global emphasis to our core curriculum and developing a strong community of learners that value lifelong learning. At The Roig Academy, our staff teach to the whole child by engaging in ongoing teacher collaboration and use differentiated instructional techniques that are supported by current and best practices in teaching and learning. These various teaching strategies allow us to foster the development of the whole child encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs as well as academic welfare. At The Roig Academy, each child’s unique social, physical, emotional, cultural and academic welfare is nurtured in a supportive learning community. Individualized academic goals which address areas of interest and academic strengths and needs are regularly monitor and assessed with input from our multidisciplinary team, which includes the child A leader and true visionary in the field of Special Education, Mrs. Jennifer Roig founded The Roig Academy in the hopes of creating a learning environment where all children feel safe, respected, and loved. As Head of School, she understands that all children, whether pre-school or school age, should be allowed to think and reason using their own special gifts and talents. As a partner in the education of children, Jennifer wants her students, parents, and educators to have a special responsibility and joy as they discover, recognize, and capitalize on the individual strengths and learning styles of all the children that enter the doors of the Roig Academy. In 2000, she founded the Roig Academy After School Tutoring Program. The success of the first program lead to the expansion of a second center in Key Biscayne. In 2002, Mrs. Jennifer Roig launched The Roig Academy Day School for children who had experienced difficulty learning in a more crowded traditional classroom, where individualized attention was not easily achieved. In 2006, her vision to meet the needs of the community continued to grow as she expanded her academy to include Early Childhood Education. The Roig Academy Preschool provides neighborhood children ages 2 through Kindergarten with a safe, loving, nurturing environment and a well rounded bi-lingual curriculum designed to prepare its students for the elementary school years. Her commitment to help those in need is demonstrated by her active participation within the community and involvement with several professional associations such as The Learning Disabilities Association of America, Council for Exceptional Children, International Dyslexia Association, Southern Early Childhood Association, Florida Association for Child Care Management, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Mrs. Roig formerly served as a board member for The Miami Children’s Museum Educational Task Force and has been a guest speaker at events such as Miami-Dade County Early Learning Coalition Literacy Conference. The Roig Academy is a candidate school for the Primary Years Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.
