RITE OF PASSAGE, INC., MINDEN

Rite of Passage helps over 2,000 at-risk and vulnerable youth nationwide by providing targeted programs, services and unique opportunities that prepare them to reunite with their families and communities. Our Academic Model™ delivers care through a supportive, normalized milieu with a focus on a youth’s mental, physical and emotional well-being. This approach emphasizes family involvement and community outreach. For our youngest children, we provide a supportive, caring environment with the objective of family permanency and preservation. Our adolescent population learns the value of empathy, integrity and work ethic while obtaining an accredited education and valuable life skills. Rite of Passage programs produce lasting success for youth and families. Our graduates continue on the path to post-secondary education, begin professional careers and become advocates for health, wellness and youth in their own communities. Mission and Vision Rite of Passage is committed to helping children through providing quality programming which offers safe, clean and caring environments where they can develop and grow. We are driven by our mission, vision and core values to provide the best evidence-based services to youth in need. Mission: Our dedication to youth demands our full participation in services to rehabilitate and help them. Our values reflect those of a business founded by people who wanted to help youth succeed. Our youth-centered approach, with a focus on providing normalized environments, safety and caring relationships, and positive opportunities for learning and personal growth, reflects our commitment to tomorrow’s generation. Community Connections: Promoting community engagement provides our youth with opportunities to develop positive relationships and a sense of belonging and purpose. As a learning organization, Rite of Passage integrates the latest evidence-based and research-based practices into every aspect of its service delivery. We follow the latest findings for the most effective practices in education, curricula development, cognitive-behavioral interventions, problem solving development, critical social skills, and family therapy while offering youth meaningful opportunities for practicing responsible behavior in their homes, schools and communities. While in a Rite of Passage program, youth learn social skills, gain academic knowledge, gather vocational-technical competence and independent life skills which will enable them to lead successful lives. 2560 Business Parkway Suite A Leaders Dedicated to Making a Difference Rite of Passage’s team of leaders have demonstrated their dedication to our mission through their service and experience in the child welfare, education, business and juvenile justice fields. For over thirty years, we continue to improve the lives of youth through the heartfelt compassion we form with the children, teenagers and young adults we serve. This is our core competency, and our passion. As a passionate advocate for youth and families, Mr. Broman has dedicated his career to developing effective youth programs. He began his career as a licensed therapist, then received his second Master's Degree in Business Administration. Through the intersection of his clinical and business experience, Mr. Broman has evolved Rite of Passage into a nationally acclaimed organization that has served over 35,000 youth. Ms. Jenkins-Bower has a Master of Business Administration and is an engaged advocate for empowering women and promoting equality. As a dedicated champion for personal rights gleaned from her experience in the military and later, in public service for the State of Hawaii, Ms. Bower is dedicated to ROP's mission of improving the lives of youth, families and communities. As ROP's Director of Treatment Services, Dr. William Bruinsma provides psychological services, organizational consultation and oversees treatment program fidelity. Prior to ROP, he served as the Executive Director for a county juvenile court center and was adjunct faculty at the University of Notre Dame. He graduated with honors from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where he received his Psy.D. Rite of Passage started as a small company focused on helping kids… Maguire was intrigued by the challenge to help at-risk youth in an innovative way that challenged the contemporary and ineffective practices. His vision led to the birth of “Rite of Passage” as a group home for 12 male youth in the “Wimbleton House”, located in the Sierra Nevada Range where Maguire’s two premises of relationships and experiential learning guided youth to better outcomes. As the 1980’s progressed, Rite of Passage expanded to include a site in the high desert of Northern Nevada. There, youth adhered to an alternative “boot camp” program– following the model that was gaining momentum among juvenile justice programs nationwide. The program philosophy was simple: rigorous exercise delivered therapy, which, when paired with positive mentoring and serious academic study, fostered opportunities for youth to develop goals, and to improve their own lives. This was a major shift in Rite of Passage’s focus. Following the research and best-practices of the time, this shift transitioned our programs from their outward focus to the development of youth’s intellect and employable skill sets. This was the decade of our Athletic Training Centers and Schools where youth could earn not only a high school diploma, but could receive vocational training in industry recognized trades. These images show Rite of Passage’s evolution from a group home in Northern Nevada to a national provider of services to at-risk and vulnerable youth. 2560 Business Parkway Suite A These are the best student and Rite of Passage moments which underscore our mission of improving the lives of youth. Every Rite of Passage program embraces a wide spectrum of youth with specialized needs, so every young man and woman feels like they belong, and that they can succeed.
