What is Rendered Interiors
Barbara Laurent has created Rendered Interiors as a true “service to the trade.” Its sole reason for being is to help designers sell their own services and close sales. As she has discovered over the years, interior designers and architects do not always have drawing and rendering skills. While computer renderings have gained steady acceptance, Barbara feels that they never quite have the softness required to successfully render interiors in particular. In addition, a rendering that is too photo-realistic can often set an unreasonable level of expectation in the mind of the client making the finished product a potential disappointment.
Hand-drawn renderings can convey the concept of a design to the client while maintaining enough of an unfinished quality to provide the designer with flexibility in completing the project. Barbara offers all types of drawings from black and white line work to finished, fully rendered presentation quality drawings. She can be involved during any and all phases of the design process. The drawings are small works of art, which designers can use for their own promotion, or as gifts to their clients.
An artist for as long as she can remember, Barbara Laurent has turned a life-long passion into Rendered Interiors. A History major in college and graduate school, a computer programmer and systems analyst, and a market planner at various points in her career, Barbara never strayed far from her obsession for art, architecture and interior design and was always available to friends and family to help with their decorating and design problems. While some may see her background as wildly varying, Barbara sees a continuity of interest in patterns and structure (she believes that artists make the best programmers!) and that these disciplines have served to hone her observation skills.
Just prior to school she worked for an interior design firm in Sarasota, and worked for a Naples interior design firm shortly after graduation. Since then, she has worked for renovation/flooring companies as their principal designer. In 2013 she was selected to prepare fully-colored renderings for each of the rooms for the ASID Skyhome Showhouse.
