Joe was a hard worker. As a preteen, he sought jobs or ways to make money from started jobs as sweeper at the Campus Drive-in, pushing customer’s grocery baskets to their cars for tips and cleaning a pizza place. As a teenager, he sold newspapers at the Navy Commissary on 32nd and Harbor. At 17, he even decided to play pool for money. He did these jobs while still in school. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1963 and immediately after became a Tuna Fisherman. He also worked for Vonderay Moving Company until the Army drafted him in 1965.
In his later years, he continued to lavish his family with love and support in all their interests. He supported his wife in her educational endeavors, and served as a babysitter and taxi driver for his grandchildren and his wife. Without fail, he made it a point to attend his grandchildren’s social, educational and sports events: Tae Kwon Do, Cheer, Volley Ball, Baseball, Football, practices games and competitions. He supported and assisted Joseph Jr. in his various businesses: Sonic Sound, Global Internet Services, PC Joes, and The Venue at Eastlake. He was supportive and proud of his daughter's Teresa’s SDSU Cum Laude graduation and her federal government career. He even traveled to San Francisco with her to accompany her to her interview with the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Even though he was stricken with Leukemia in 2008, he continued to support and attend his family’s events.
