On Jackie’s mother’s birthday, the family’s plans to celebrate came to a screeching halt upon receiving a phone call from Janice—Jackie’s beloved sister-aunt and her mother’s younger sister —with news that she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Since Janice would only refer to the diagnosis as, “The doctor said I have cancer…” the family saw that as a clear sign that Janice had the fortitude to beat the disease that unwelcomingly invaded her body. As she endured one intense round of chemotherapy and radiation treatment after another with grace and expectancy, Janice’s actions clearly indicated she was an advocate for her own physical wellbeing. But, Janice’s mental wellbeing was severely compromised by the disappointments and negative emotions from past painful experiences, all of which she was unable to release. The effort to support Janice through her emotional struggles shaped the vision for how Jackie believed she could best help others live abundantly. In 2012, Recycle Regrets® emerged from the ashes of Janice’s pain.
