Dr. Becky is a psychology resident who completed her doctorate in clinical psychology at the Florida School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Tampa. She currently provides psychotherapy, support groups, parent coaching, and psychological assessments to individuals, of all ages, at the ProTherapyPlus – Lutz office. Dr. Becky has gained diverse experiences in various settings before joining ProTherapyPlus. Some of these experiences include in and with: psychiatric inpatient, public schools, and residential programs for foster care children. Moreover, these experiences have allowed her to acquire a robust foundation in test administration, case conceptualization, and an understanding of how trauma manifests in children and adolescents. Dr. Becky’s experiences have given her a platform to treat individuals, groups, and families. Psychological evaluations are to assess various levels of functioning, such as intellectual, learning issues, concentration and attention, mood and anxiety, personality, and social issues. An evaluation will help pin point the underlying reason for a child struggling with these unmanageable problems. After identifying the root of the issue, a plan of “what to do next” is developed to help your child or teen. Psychological reports can be used to access certain accommodations in the school / work setting if needed. Dr. Becky provides coaching to parents to help them troubleshoot their parenting strategies with their child. A parenting plan is created for the parents to implement at home with their child. Finally, Dr. Becky provides psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and families who are dealing with such issues as trauma from childhood abuse, difficulties in attaching (feeling close) to parental figures, adoption, interpersonal difficulties, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and adjustments to divorce or blended-family arrangements. To engage nonverbal and resistant children, Dr. Becky uses expressive therapies that involve visual art, play, and sand trays. For children who can profit from talking through their issues, Dr. Becky addresses the interplay between emotions, behaviors, thoughts, relationships, physiology, and faith. Psychotherapy with individual adults and couples is also part of her work and issues such as postpartum depression; family planning; and relational difficulties are cornerstones of her work. Frequently, personality inventories are used to help both partners understand how their personality styles contribute to the relationship. Renee is experienced in helping clients dealing with stressors, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, negative body image, grief/loss, self-regulation, adjustment issues and other concerns. Renee understands the important connection between family, support systems and overall mental health and believes collaboration is an important element in the therapeutic process. She is a member of the Association for Play Therapy and the American Counseling Association.
